Uniroyal's fitted... sketchy...

Hi
Just fitted two rain sport 3's to the rear and I'm finding them very twitchy and unpredictable. I've done about 150 miles on them, the coloured lines are still showing a bit, will they get better or is this normal?! The DSC is coming on just with normal driving....

MR Wilks recommends these so 8 am sure they will get better. If the "new" lines are still there then they wont have run in yet.

Alot of people have mentioned new tyres needing to bed in , maybe it's more noticeable on a performance car ,as you expect more from it

200/300 miles to scrub tyres in  tyres are covered in release agent when manufactured.

Not heard that reported before on Uni3s :? does the car actually feel skittish in the bends or is it just dash lights :? Always worth checking rear springs after its been in the air as change of wheels can snap the "pigs tail" off the bottom if not lowered gently
Also worth checking that the tread pattern is matched correct as it can look odd although correct as with Vred Sessantas

Basically I can feel the back weaving in and out when going round a bend, very odd sensation and making the car unstable. Pressures are 34r 32f. Cracked springs did occur to me so will check this.
Do these tyres have soft sidewalls because it feels like the tyre is rolling over...

Last time I had new tyres on I went though this - the old ones must've masked it somehow. I turned the DSC off to notice that the car wasnt sliding so much, but it thought it was. It actually turned out that my Geo was way out with rear toe, which n turn disrupted the other sensors.

Does the car track perfectly straight on a straight road?

Try 36 in the rears, when I had 17's on, I found it skittish below this pressure. Once I played with the pressure the car drove much better. Now I have 18's on, I would say it's a totally different car and drives superb.

Just to clarify setup, I'm 18x9 rears with 255 35. Never experienced this with old tyres which were same size on same wheels. Car drives straight when there's no camber. Had 4 wheel alignment done less than a year ago so should be good although was before new wheels which have lower offset and wider in rear but again it was fine on the old tyres...
Cheers

I had 4x UniRoyal R3s fit on my 3.0si about a month ago. They took a good 3-400 miles to bed in properly - before that the traction would kick in under foot down acceleration in a straight line. Once they're bedded in, they're bloody awesome tyres. Might be worth looking at getting a hunter alignment done too

OK, think I've given these enough time to bed in now, they're not really improving. On a steady 70mph bend on a dual carriageway, the arse end is weaving all over the place but if I stuff it into a sharper Ben such as a roundabout they seem better. So under moderate corner load, the car just goes really light a vague at the back, it's totally weird! Could this be anything other than the tyres??
Any help appreciated, I think I may have a horrific accident soon!

Mine are really good, wet/dry and are massively better than the Potenzas they replaced. What tyres are on the front? Maybe the front/rear grip is way out of whack.

Hi Jimbob.
I'm running 18 x 8.5 on the rear all new uni rainsport 3 .
About 300 miles and they feel spot on .
It does sound like the tyre's may not be the Issue .

Try having a four wheel alignment check (Hunter or a get BMW to check) I have just fitted 4 Michelin Pilot Sport 4's fitted and having Sopers of Lincoln do a four wheel alignment check to ensure the tyres wear correctly - the set i just took off had eccessive wera on the inside rear edge due to being out of alignment.

Hi, my pressures are 34\32, I did think about trying 36 in the rear if they have soft sidewalls?
My fronts are fallen fk453, they're probably 75% worn so I guess it could be an imbalance in grip but would have thought I'd just get understeer?

I noticed a big improvement on my 17's when I up'd the pressure. Now I have the 18's the car rides so much better

Just found this thread which might explain it, looks like I should replace the fronts as well
