Was out picking up shopping in the zed, for a change, excuse to steal it from wife's clutches, and had my iPhone 4 plugged into Aux in armrest and power supply in armrest and was listening to iPod.
The music turned off and the ringtone on thre phone came through the speakers, I answered it as was sitting in carpark and the wife's voice came through speakers I automatically spoke and she could hear me :o

I've no idea where the microphone is in the car as we didn't specify phone prep, but it's a pleasant surprise that we have handsfree phone through Aux in car

I may be dumb but didn't know that that would work :D

I'm not surprised the speakers 'play' the phone voice as it's just the same as playing music throught he external speakers of the car.

The microphone bit is unusual. Are you sure it wasn't just the phones own mike receiving? Can't see how the aux cable would take a mike input, so probably has to be the phone's own.

I thought the mike thing was weird too but it was as clear as a bell. The phone was sitting in armrest albeit with arm open, but was bloody better than my other vehicles parrot.
When I got home I phoned wife from drive and tried it again and got her to sit in and I stood outside and listened.
Really weird TBH :?

Strange! Usually has to be paired through Bluetooth to do that?

Mind you I read somewhere the latest iPhone 4 software update has an iPhone out feature! Not sure what it does but I read that Bmw were going to tap into the feature.

Like CJ10Jeeper said, all the phone was doing was outputting the ringer/voice through your speakers (like it would on the earphones hands free) and the phones own mic was picking up your voice :)

Proper phone prep, would include a contact list, answer button etc. on the stereo, so you do not have to handle the phone.

It was too clear to be just the mike. The phone was in the armrest and shut over. Will need to experiment a bit more :?

Not quite the same, but i was using a standard non mic set of ear phones when i had my 3G iPhone and my wife rang, i was trying to get my phone off headset to talk to hear but they still worked and she could hear me......

I did hold the phone in the end just in case but she said the sound was fine.....

Wonder if the mic on the phone picks up when a non mike connection in in the head set plug???? Or it could be just something to do with wifes???

Cheers

PaulN

It was definitely the phone's mic that was doing this. iPhone 4 has noise cancelling I believe so that is probably the explanation for the call clarity.

My Professional Radio stopped working this morning. I have just tried again, it still wasn't working (nothing on display screen). :(

Not sure. I booked it in tomorrow. Hope my local dealer can fix it. No music in the car for 2 hours today was boring. If a new unit is needed, I have to wait about a week without music in the car. :(

Is the whole unit dead?

Yes. Nothing on the screen. Even the air-recirculation button on the steering wheel doesn't work. I think a new unit is needed.

Maybe something simple like a loose connection somwhere?

I never use the air-recirculation button... :?

They spent an hour to find the problem this afternoon. Now a new unit will be fitted tomorrow.

After fitting the new unit, the system crashed during software upload. My Zed has to stay there overnight. :(

So I have to work from home again tomorrow. I had heard that software uploading crash happens all the times on all new BMW. What is it all about? Does it really take several hours to complete the whole process?
