Hi, sorry for the daft question, but should the underside of the bonnet on an Si and coupe be Satin Black or body coloured?

Thanks.

Great, thank you.

I’ve seen a couple where they are both satin/Matt black - a coupe and a 3.0 Si.

But also I’ve seen a coupe advertised where from the photo’s the underside of the bonnet is bright silver - would this suggest a replacement bonnet/accident repair?

Depends on the colour of the car, but if car is black then I would say yes. You’d have hoped they’d at least put a base coat on though that being the case.

The Coupe was a lovely grey, the Si was also grey but a more traditional grey... neither car was black?

Also, to be clear, the car with a silver underside to the bonnet was a silver car... hence my confusion.

it all depends on the base used. you can check by checking the shuts on the boot, they should match under the bonnet.

I was intrigued by this, so I popped out this morning and the underside of the bonnet on my Montego Blue E86 is definitely black!

Now I'm left wondering if that suggests it has had a new bonnet, or that it hasn't!

The bonnet is original, it’s the rest of the car that's been changed :P

That's probably unlikely, but I wouldn't mind if I had a 2010 or later shell - then it might be the newest E86 in the world!

I think that means it’s original! Unless all of the 2006 cars I’ve looked at so far have been crashed!

My Midnight Blue Z4C has a matching blue bonnet underside, just without the glossy finish. It was built in 2006, registered 2007.

Interesting... now I’m really confused.

I’m not an expert, but I always look for things like under Bonnet paint etc. Maybe certain car were finished differently. How can I determine in a silver car should be silver or satin black.

It seems numerous cars have a satin black underside to the bonnet, ones I’ve viewed and ones on here too?

Also, the inner wings weren’t body coloured, they were also satin black?

I find it hard to believe that someone would completely rebuild the front of a car and not respray the inner wings?

Hi, sorry to be stupid, but where do you mean specifically?

I’m likely to be buying one of these in the next couple of weeks hopefully, so it would be good to be certain.

Thanks.

When you open the boot, just look on the underside of the boot and all the surfaces aound the seal that you can't normally see. Should be like under the bonnet.
