Unbelievable...

Ok took the wheel to an indie to give me his professional opinion on what happened. He put the wheel in his 'bead breaker' and the rounded blade matched perfectly with the damage on the wheel.
Apparently, runflats are an absolute bitch to get off if you don't know what you're doing and it's very easy to get the blade/scoop caught underneath the tyre where it will easily trash the wheel if the operator is ham-fisted.
I've asked him to write a concise report and I'll then go for the goolies; I'm not the sort that likes paying for £400 screw-ups, especially when they're someone elses...

******Update*******

Just to show that persistence pays off Formula 1 have finally agreed to pay me compensation to cover the cost of the wheel they trashed, so result.
It's taken a lot of dicking about; I confronted the site manager with an evidence pack on Tuesday with photos, indie trye fitter report damning their 'work' etc, and he just argued the toss and finally clammed up altogether just stating 'no comment' to my arguments.

So I sent the same evidence pack to their head office and lo and behold back came a mail asking if the area manager could meet with me and inspect the damage. I agreed of course but then yesterday they sent me another mail saying that as a sign of good will they would reinburse me fully for the new alloy I had to buy.

In my reply thanking them for a speedy conclusion I also suggested that they stick the site manager on a cutomer service refresher course and that as their organisation had effectively bought the trashed alloy, I would drop it off at the Basildon site where I also suggested that the manager should stick a clock in it and mount on the wall as a reminder of how not to treat customers.

So assuming the cheque turns up next week, sorted.

Good result. I would ask them to do a bank transfer for the agreed amount. You should get your money quicker.

Well, if nothing else it might give someone else hope when in the same situation; it's just a case of finding the right amount of leverage in the right crack as it were to get results. :D
