Unable to lock/unlock car with second key fob

Hi,
I have a second keyfob which I thought was dead. I tried placing it for a few days on my electric toothbrush charging base and this seems to have done the trick.
I can use the secondary keyfob to start and drive the car but it won't lock or unlock the car. I have to use the one I have always been using to do so.
Can this be fixed? I am wondering if this something that could be solved by somehow resynchronising the keyfob to the car...
Any advice will be much appreciated.
Thanks

Thanks for the reply and the link, but aren't those syncing methods for the E85's? The post you linked is on the E85 section of the forum and the OP on said post was enquiring about a MK1.
I am beginning to think that it might not be that simple and might have to take the keyfob to my local specialist...

Sorry- I assumed it was an e85… await someone else to give advice on the e89 process

The key fob has two ‘channels’ ..they are quite separate..the reason that the duff key can start the car is that it needs no power to do that....the remote failure indicates a dead battery or other failure in that part of the key..

I have seen tutorials online where people remove the innards of the fob and desolder the battery holder to then transplant everything to a new keyfob. I might try that at some point.

I recently used this repair service. Really quick turnaround.

Quite a few here have used the master locksmiths. to get batteries sorted in sealed key fobs. Myself included. You will still need to sync the key to the car though. No idea how for an E89.

If you are in the West Country you could try a company called ‘Your Key’ helped me out a few years ago
