Have changed my run flats tyres to GOODYEAR FI today.Decision now what back up to use .I am cosidering Ultraseal.Has anyone any experiance of using it.
I may well do a belt and brace and buy a 17in E46 spcace saver for knocking about.The Ultra seal for when we need more boot space.
As has been said before the ride is improved 100%.
I bought the tyres from Mytyres and had them fitted at a place local to me called the The Wheel Restores ,all the work was done with great care.
As the name implies he restores alloy wheels,his work looks top quailty,he seems to do a lot with Porsche motors.His web site is http://www.thewheelrestorer.co.uk.He is based near Wrexham N Wales.
 
I have ultraseal or something similar in mine. Decided to get it before a big road trip. Can't remember the name of the product but it was light green in colour and non tacky, contained small rubber fibres too. The guy who inserted it drove over a board with 6 nails in his van right in front of me. He drive for a mile then returned; could not see the holes on his tyre and there was no leaking. I feel happier knowing I have it..

Just checked through my emails. It was Ultraseal that I had inserted into my tyres.

They were a bit concerned that I might experience some increase in vibration at 50-60mph due to the low profile tyres. However I took the risk. Glad to report that I experienced no judder at all (and I was looking for it). As I said, I covered 3500 miles around europe with no issues and another 2-3K since.

I was offered the product for free through a corporate day.
 
i had this fitted to my Golf years ago.. after i removed the spare to fit a sub.

i had no problems.. and no idea if i ever got a puncture.

At first I got a wierd vibration but that went after a few miles.
 
I'm told that because it remains viscous it naturally finds its own level as far as wheel balance is concerned and you actually shouldn't need your wheels balancing again ever.

Theres even a powder solution (forget what its called) for wheel balancing....you just squirt it in through the valve then drive it a bit til it sorts itself out....and voila, no weights.
 
Personally I would not put such stuff in a tyre on a performance car.

Flats are amazingly rare these days. I've seen a stat from Yougov showing you break down on average once every 20 years and just 30% of that is tyre failure.

I'd rely on the motability kit that many of us use (or similar gunk) put in on a needs basis. Svae the cost, risks of vibration and need to do it all again ont he next set. I'd alos like to know if I got a nail in a tyre and fix it properly and not drive around in ignorance.

I keep spacesaver for longer trips, although usually in the garage and if I did break down I can either have it driven out if local or RAC recovered home.

In my relativly short 10 year driving experiance i've only once needed to call recovery - and that was after a friend didnt tighten my wheel bolts properly resulting in a wheel falling off :oops:

But i have had 3 punctures.. and with council spending being cut no doubt the number of nails and sharp objects uncleaned from our roads will only increase.
 
aquazi - trouble is that I'm talking averages here and not an unlucky individual.

I reckon in 30+ years I've clocked 1,000,000 miles in my and wife's cars and probably had 2 or 3 between us

Damaged tyres from pothole impact will likley increase, but goo won't help that at all and I'm not sure councils ever clear roads, just gutters.
 
Cj the yougov figures are misleading as they probably only get there data from the big recovery firms,i dont know anyone who has had a puncture and contacted a gov dept to tell them they have had a puncture.If i were you i would put the space saver in the boot as it is sods law you will now pick up a puncture.

The you gov figure I looked at came from insurers and recovery companies. Of course they are unreliable but better than a pure guess.
 
I'm 56 and spent much of my life driving an average of 30-40k miles a year.

I had a puncture once on a Passat estate and thats it in a total mileage similar to or greater than CJs; in fact it was a blow-out at around 80mph on the rear offside but the car stayed so stable I only noticed the tyre was gone because of the blue smoke in the rear view mirror. :oops:

Mind you, I'm not counting the numerous AT2s I've had slashed up by welsh slate on the tracks around here :cry:
