Finally got around to converting this to image files so it can be posted direct on here. It's a really good read (if you like that kind of thing)!

Fascinating - thanks for that.

But I'm not entirely convinced having no dipstick really does "represent a convenience function for the customer"! :(

I combined them into a PDF. Download from DropBox here (9MB):

The pdf I downloaded from the Dropbox link is not searchable. But it’s a great resource so many thanks to the OP.

I have a searchable .pdf version version... drop me your email by pm if you want a copy. Maybe Liam can host on dropbox?

Dropbox link now has the searchable version (smaller, too: 5MB). Same link as before:

Thanks for this- great info!

Interesting to note that the coolant not only cools the electric water pump but also lubricates the bearings- I wonder if some of the relatively early fails of the motor are due to the fact that many people don't bother renewing the coolant every 3-4 years?

Over time, coolant loses it lubricating/rust protection qualities so even if it passes the "anti-freeze" test, it might be doing very little regards the former?

interesting thought, never really occured to me that one. You may well be correct. Note to self:- replace the coolant :)
