Ulez

Just cover your number plates when passing through or......."sorry officer I had no idea my from plate had fallen off".
I'm currently working on a James Bond style number plate "adjustment "lever control on springs and cable for camera location avoidance

Dreadful things, even worse when it was British Leyland.

Tim.

Th worrying thing about ULEZ is the extent and cost of the cameras and management of the scheme. Khan says that 90% of vehicles are compliant, so why the cost?

Suspect they are planning for pay per mile in London

Either that or shifting the goalposts - like changing from Euro IV for petrols to Euro V.

Sadly your closer to the truth than you think. I was told over 5 years ago by a road traffic police officer friend of mine that the cameras that have been placed on all the major and minor roads are infact capable of tracking and recording the journeys of all cars , he explained how in the future ( we are now in that future he described) the road tax will be dropped for pay as you go , but the infrastructure needed to be in place and tested so the change over can be smoothly rolled out almost immediately. :rtfm:

Depending on how much the charge is per mile, it may be cheaper than tax for some.
For instance 10p a mile would be £500 for 5000 miles.
I would imagine that it would need to be less than that as the average yearly mileage is around 8-10,000 miles.
Could be good news for weekend m cars that are paying over £600 for tax.

I like the idea as I don't do a vast mileage but I bet it'd be a banded scheme: First 2000 miles at 20ppm, next 5000 at 10ppm, 2p thereafter or something equally annoying.

Don’t forget the daily charge like your electricity and water :?

Yep as long as it's reasonably priced the at 5,000 per annum it may be cheaper for me than road tax. Whats the chances of fuel duty being abolished and all being included in a single charge? The only issue I have is the big brother aspect. The banks even in the EU are pushing for digital currency only. Now that would be scary and total control by the state
