i cant believe you said that an ageing population is a problem......A huge percentage of this age group have paid thousands and thousands of pounds into "the system" only to receive a miserly state pension..Whats the current rate ?? £70 a week ?

Its a bloody disgrace the way some elderly people are treated in this country,the politicians should ashamed of themselves for pushing a lot of people into pension poverty..

Are we really living a lot longer ?? If so the only reason is because of better medicine thats keeping us going longer,cancer,heart disease and obesity has increased massively in the last couple of decades so if the stats and hype are to be believed then we must be dying earlier??.. Remember the old old saying of "you get your 3 score years and ten"?

If i make it to seventy without serious illness i will think myself very lucky... It was no different years ago!....

At 70 the government have had 50 years of tax and NI payments off you.....So its time for you to die and make way for some blanket clad peasant or some fat spotty oik with afterbirth still drying on her legs...

Our ageing population is a problem (and yes, we are living longer.....really!!). Now, I'm not saying we need to stop caring for the elderly, in fact the opposite is required and I completely agree that more needs to be done to help. The problem with an ageing population is that it will become increasingly harder to support them....a situation even worse than we currently have. We'll have a higher % of pensioners meaning that the amount of tax revenue required to support them will increase at a quicker rate than the tax revenues received.

If you google "UK ageing population" there's plenty of reading material.

Elderly are vulnerable as far as I am concerned and I look out for any elderly neighbour. Winter's here and I would say check on elderly people within your neighbourhood even if its just a hello how are you. We need to have a little more respect

you guys across the small pond, are still in youre happy homes, still thinking the world is stil nice and about peace and love, and that any imigrant is an enrichment to the culture....... you're eyes must me glued together with socialistsuperglue.

when you go out to a foreigh country, don't you adopt their lifestile and habbits ? why don't they do it when they come te live overhere? so no sharia courts, no woman in burka's, no complaining about woman having the same rights etc.

and i thought most of you brits, were anti EU ( at least in the case of them becoming the USEU or EUSSR), but it seems you guys have more in commen with those guys than you might even think.

You are misunderstanding. Saying the ageing population is a "problem" is not saying elderly people are a bad idea, it is referring to the fact that they need paying for. I love old people, I hope to be one, one day, but it doesn't take away from the fact that the increasing number of old folks are a "problem" for the country that needs to be tackled one way or another.

You're mainly talking about religious extremists, whether home grown or imported.

Right wing extremists, left wing extremists, religious extremists, they're all barking mad. That's a separate (albeit closely linked) conversation to immigration.

home grown ? how did they end up in holland ? there were not many muslims( and sertainly not extremists of that kind) before imigration started up by leftwing goverments. and mostly 2nd and 3rth gen. "imigrants" from north africa are causing problems al over western europe. their criminalty is much higher than with natives and people lets say from asia ( like chinese, vietnamese etc etc). so thats a direct effect from immigration.

and with a social security system as in western europe, it's not able to support legions of immigrants who come and do do nothing because of them not finding a job, sometimes without there own fault, but most because of lack of skill, workethic, and lack of knowledge of language.
just like all those boatrefuege's wich are invading italy, italians don't have the money nor the place to host al those people, but in holland we certainly don't. they come here for a better future instead of making their own in africa. i got a message for al those, their are no more money, no jobs.

in holland its verry hard to find a job on the moment ( i have one thank god), because of cheap labour comming in from eastern europe, so even dutch people who want to work won't find a job because a polish, romanian, bulgarian wil work 2 as hard, and longer for the same ( or even less) amount of money of a native.

so immigration is a big problem for the EU and countries.

Like i said, let's keep the religion and the immigration separate. An immigrant willing to work twice as hard is unlikely to be anything to do with their religion (The majority of Eastern Europeans will be a denomination of Christian anyway.) it's far more to do with their work ethic compared to the locals. Also that a lot of the time they'll do the jobs the locals feel are beneath them.

As to home grown, I didn't say home grown Moslem, I said home grown religious extremists. Whether there, here in the UK or the US. Christian fundamentalists are as bad as any other, and often more blinkered.

You seem to be working on the premise that we have ever been asked to sanction mass immigration, had a vote on it or even a public debate. Don't confuse what our elitist politicians have done with the actual wishes of 99.9% of the English people. I say English because it has been a targeted policy against England more than other parts of the UK.

Oh yes they have. It's called an election. The sad fact is that the majority of the "great" British public take no interest in politics. Most would struggle to name one policy of the party they voted for and many cannot name any cabinet ministers.

I've said all along you get the politicians you deserve. Take an interest, get active, VOTE (because 40% of us can't even be arsed to do that).

If you've done all that then you have a right to complain. If you haven't, well it's tough s**t, you have no right to an opinion. It's part of the something-for-nothing culture that pervades this country.
