just a happy note to say that yesterday i filled my Zed for under 90 measely ppl.. (top of the parade in Southampton).... awesome

I know we all moan about the price of fuel *all* the time.. just wanted to get some happy time in before Gordon adds more tax.

I drove home extra quick to celebrate... :driving:

You need to get up North - i've been filling up at 88.9p for a couple of weeks now!

It's 87.9 at a certain Shell in Manchester, Diesel is at 100.9 which is also good.

Those guys down south are a little slow :poke:

Although I've been paying 94.9p for Vpower  Last time I checked diesel was more like 105p, which waves byebye to those supposed fuel savings :P

Yes, verily 'tis a heartening sight to behold. Must admit that I never thought I'd see petrol fall below £1.00 per litre ever again.

As said by others, we in the north have seen sub-90 pence per litre prices for a feww weeks now, which is nice :)

But I still think that it is more expensive relative to the price of oil that it was before the whole oil price carry-on started a while back. It also grieves me that when oil was going up, the pump price seemed to go up the very next day, and quite sharply. But when the oil price was falling it took ages for the pump price to fall, and the reduction seemed relatively small. :x

I've also yet to notice the price fall further in response to they VAT rate reduction. There should be at least another 2 pence per litre to come off for that alone.

Come to think of it, I haven't seen anything come down in price because of the VAT rate change. Bleh.

........end of rant.

By the way Andy, the photo in your avatar looks like an ///M. Does this mean you're running an ///M on normal 95 RON unleaded instead of V-power or the like?

If so, how does it run? Do you notice any difference in things like performance, engine smoothness etc and economy?

Cheers :)

Angus they put up the duty on fuel when they reduced VAT, which is why you havent seen a difference in price.

Any savings due to tax cuts will be made up by the 2p extra duty being put on it...

And we've all forgotten that in 2000, when petrol reached 84.9p / l, there was a fuel blockade in protest against the prices. Now we're pathetically grateful that it's back in the same ballpark.

It's amazing what a decade of New Labour has done to the British spirit.

I run my M on Morrisons unleaded.

Runs fine.

Although nothing to compare it against. Only reason I do is there's nothing decent close by, so just go for consistency as opposed to mixing tanks.

88.9 I've been paying too

Tesco at 88.9 less another 5p per litre discount when shopping there, so net is 83.9p Cheaper than it's been for ages.

Bet it's back to £1.20+ within a year as chancellor grabs more under the guise of being green and slipping £ pushes barrel cost up.

Yep you right their :( it will be down to the motorest to get the world moving again.

Yes, the more you drive, the more you save :driving:

After speaking to a local garage owner I don't buy supermarket petrol, always use V Power. That being said, my other car seems to run as well on the normal decaffeinated stuff though it's supposed to use higher octane.

Btw, diesel, fuel of the Devil, is £116.9 here in the South compared to 93 leaded.

Here in Spain unleaded 95 went to over 1.30 euro and has now thankfully come down to around 0.88 c, add to that no speed cameras and very little traffic and it's happy days

The thing that scares me is that the price of fuel can rise and fall by around 40 pence in only a few weeks/months - would not like to see it go up the other way again after having (nearly) purchasing a 3.0i!
