UK Track day

Count me in. Rockingham is a good track too, and fairly central. I'm chucking mine round Donington on the 16th Nov..............wish me luck LOL. :driving:

nasty tyre wall at Rockingham...

My only real concern is stacking it. I've loads of track days on bikes, but this is my 1st in a car. I did Rockingham on my bike and loved it. I think Donington has enough run off to allow the odd mistake......

The longer story is that I was bought a track day as a present for long service at my company. Open pitlane event in a hired Caterham Supersprint SV :D Was really looking forward to it, turned up and booked a tuition session - during that session not 1 hour into the day I went in to a corner too hot and panicked locked up and froze... just touched the tyre wall front end in and no more than 5-10mph. That impact wrecked the front nose cone, radiator and fan. The organisers had NO spares so it was game over, and I had to pay for the damage to the car  Overall not the best experience and certainly not what I had expected out of the day. Gutted. It has kind of put me off ever doing one again :(

I'd definitely be up for it! Im a new comer to the forum (been loitering for the last few months) but would be up for meeting some of the members and also giving the car its first track day :) (Run off is good...!) Im a north londoner, so dont mind where within reasonable driving range - heard good things about bedford.

:driving:

I could be interested if it was south/middle england.
I've heard Bedford has the most run-off. And seing as most of us are beginners (i've only done the Andy Walsh training day) then this could be a good one.
Weather is pretty good early in the year these days so i say late April/May if poss.

Bedford is meant to be really good track for beginners with its large flat run off areas but I've also heard the surface is a bit of a tyre shredder.

The picture in my signature is Bedford. It's a very safe, relatively 'easy' track IMO, open and flat - you would have to try really hard to hit something IMO, It's perfect for beginners and a good central location too (though not for the Scots!). I can understand why people would move on to other circuits over time, but it might be ideal for this kind of event. I kept an eye on my tyres throughout and didn't notice any major wear...It's big too, so lots of room for cars on the circuit and lots of track time (as long as it's the GT circuit)

I'm up for it, would be good to learn some skills.

Donnington or bedford would be preferable, butcan get to most places.

Thruxton as far as I am aware don't do track days in your own car (thats what they told me during a driver training day anyway)

The recent track day I went to at Croft was organised by the BMW Car Club. The whole day cost £150 for a car with one driver, £75 for a second driver.
There were 50 cars there, so it's not cheap to hire the track for the day but it was well organised and they had a couple of instructors there, which was very useful. 20 cars on track at any one time but with the whole day to go out, you get plenty of track time.

Maybe it would be a better idea to get a group of forum members going to the next BMW Car Club day, they have several through out the year at different tracks.

I wouldn't want to put my car through track use too regularly, I couldn't afford the tyres  , I did find the day very useful though. I have more knowledge of how the car handles when pushed and I really enjoyed finding the racing line and improving my driving during the day.

We could always have a big road trip to the Nurgburgring next summer :poke: :driving:

Yep, down for that. Another year I've failed to make a visit there. :(
