How much of a pain is it to add the self leveling?

Never fitted them on the Zed but I suspect it's a rear suspension mounted sensors to calculate body angle changes from a static norm, then you need thge asociated loom - big pain

No flash to pass in the US. Yo must be turning lights on an off that will kill them real quick

No, actually, if you just pull forward on the stalk, the xenons fire--that's why I don't do that! 8)

Interesting as they are supposed to be switched on only once every 15 minutes or thereabout IIRC from the manual. Xenon really don't like cycling on and off, as you know.

I was quoted £744 inc vat for two units at my local dealership last week.
That price excludes bulbs, ignitors and ballast

Are you sure these were for a xenon pair? That price sounds very much like a clear set as a direct replacement for halogen lights. I remember at the time wishing I had non xenon headlights :) :)

gwatson, I'd appreciate it if you could look at:
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=BT52&mospid=47797&btnr=63_0758&hg=63&fg=05
and
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=BT52&mospid=47797&btnr=63_0766&hg=63&fg=05

and identify what parts are NOT present in these headlights? I am trying to decide what additional costs on top of the £600 asking price I will incur. I already have an additional £50 on top for reprogramming as it stands.

Good call.. I asked for a price for xenon and that was the price given.. however looking at the specs on realoem posted previously, they were the same reference docs we were looking at in the dealership. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=BT52&mospid=47797&btnr=63_0757&hg=63&fg=05
You can see that there are part numbers for 'headlights' and 'bi-xenon' models.

I dont have bi-xenon (just standard xenon) so perhaps the price he gave me was for the halogen!! :?

I posted basically this same question in a thread when I saw this price as upon my enquiry a few mionths back the dealer quoted £750 each for xenon and £350 each for halogen as unit price ballpark figures. Anyway I hate guesses so a 2 minute call and here we go:

Z4 xenon, amber insert silver reflector, pre facelift.
Unit £612.77
Control 230.62
Bulb £120.00
Ignition unit £58.58
Total £1021.97
all plus VAT 120.08
total £1142.05 Each

So rounds to £2,284 the pair

Now they look a bargain

So on top of these light units you'll need:

2 x control £461.24
2 x bulb £240
2 x ignition unit £117.16
Total + VAT £961.62
Total + light unit + reprogramming circa £1,600?

X-S-Z, xenon lights were offered as a dealer upgrade, so I'd imagine once you got the lights themselves,it shouldn't be too much of an issue. There is a retrofit xenon kit here it might be worth asking your dealer what exactly this includes (not lights, but maybe everything else?).

After calling sytner Cardiff they confirm that retrofit kit bi-xenon headlight 63120151691, contains all the level senors, nuts, bolts, screws etc but NO control, bulbs, ignition at a cost of £125 including VAT.

Despite the saving on the headlight unit if the rest of the required isn't including this mod. is a bit out of my price range!

gwatson please confirm if these are indeed just the headlight units....?

X-S-Z

I merely broke the items down as that's how the dealer supplies them and to cut tothe chase on the real cost of a Xenon unit. No doubt logic is that in an accident you may not destroy all the light, nor want to buy a whole unit if the ballast goes.

Graeme's lights will include everything as they are all bolted toghether in one complete headlight unit and no doubt he'll confirm that.

So if the dealer quoted you £125 then you're into a £750 project plus whatever labour to have the LCM module programmed. Assume £50 on that.

I don't think they do, it's just the £612.77 (each) part you list above. I will take a photo tomorrow evening of the back of the units and confirm. That's why I suggest for people with Xenon headlights only, it's a cheap upgrade to modernise the look of the car, but going from standard headlights will prove very expensive :(

Oops
Then you suprise me as you must have removed the bulb, internals, ballast off the underneath, etc.

Swapped them over yes, from Orange to Clear and now back to Orange lights :)
