U-turn with shift paddles?

Hmmm interesting to see that the 135i now comes not only with DCT and the N55 engine, but finally the shift paddles match normal convention. Wonder how long until this makes the E89, and the N55 engine too?

In order to enhance the sporting character of the optional 7-speed Double-Clutch Transmission, the shift paddles now feature dedicated paddles for upshifting and down shifting. The driver now pulls the right paddle for upshifts and the left for down shifts. Manual shifts may also be accomplished via the console mounted e-shifter.

I think enough people bitched about it they had to change ... I tried an M6 and couldn't figure out how to upshift for a few times. I never thought to reach behind and pull, kept downshifting instead. I got used to it in the new z pretty quick though. :D

The new convention does seem to make a lot more sense! Surely this change should filter through to the e89 fairly soon?

Never bothered me and always seemed logical, but each to their own preference.

Really fooled me though when they reveresd the direction on the steptronic a few years back

+1 yeah exactly! how hard is it FFS!! Pull either lever towards you to go up the box and....etc I realise Clarkson can't get a grip of it but that doesn't mean the rest of us are a bit dim. It means if they do this on the Z I'll have to get it converted back ( If I buy one) Having lost me left arm, downshifting on my old Alpina was 'interesting'
so I had the wheel converted to SSG/SMG levers. On my Clubsport and Z4 its fine as I can use either lever depending on where my hand is on the wheel. I've got a CSL steering wheel stashed away thats set up the same way, just in case an M3 appears on the drive, suppose I could keep it ready for any eventuality

later this year? I did think of waiting, but you can wait forever because there is always something new on the horizon.

I have the old style paddle shift on my E92 335d and its easy to to go up and down the box with either side as had been said pull back for up the box and push forward for down the box. then irrespective of where the wheel is (upside down through a turn / bend you can select the next gear up or down without figuring out if the paddles is the left one or the right one.

I prefer this way!

That's my thinking Dario. When the wheel is upside down and you need to change that's a bit of a memory task and the last thing oyu need is a change in the wrong direction
