Tyres When Lowered

So, running FK springs currently, which is quite low and does struggle on some bumps.

Got my eye on some 19's. These are the specs: 19" x 8.5" et38 front and 19" x 9.5" et45

Just pricing up the tyres and wanted Ultrac Vorti f/r but the rears are only available in 35 profile, so will have to be Sessantas. The Vorti are supposed to improve turn in and steering feel so at least they're on the front.

So, these are the sizes chosen;

Vredestein Ultrac Vorti Size: 235/35 R19 Y (91)

Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta Size: 265/30 R19 Y (93 XL)

I'm considering going back to the stock M Sport springs to get the rear camber back in line, give the tyres some space and stop catching bumps, but not 100% either way yet.

Anyone see any definite issues with the above tyres and wheels on a 3.0i with lowering springs?

Thanks

KEEP THE FKs!!! Car looks brill with them!
I have et38 front with 235 35 19 and et27 rear with 255 30 19.

I will be changing tyres soon and will be getting a 225 35 19 for the fronts and keeping the 255 set up at the back. 225 up front just gives that little extra room

KEEP THE FKs!!! :poke:

Do you find it rubs with 235? 225 on an 8.5J will have be a little stretched won't it? Not badly, but not ideal?

It does rub a little, yea. Hence the move from 235 to 225 :) Mostly over sharp dips / bumps which I would prefer not to have!

My rears are stretched slightly too from 265 to 255 and just that little bit made a huge difference.

I wouldn't shy away from a little stretch. Have a look at Marius's thread and see how to stretch tyres!! Think he is running a 235 on a 10" rear IIRC!

People say its not great because o potential kerbing etc... Just stay away from them anyway! Stretched tyres or not, rubbing up a kerb will do damage!

Isn't that more due to the height, not the width? There's a small dip near my work that I have to take slowly or the tyre hits the top of the wheel arch (I think), but a narrower tyre wouldn't avoid this. Dips / bumps and ride height are linked, scrubbing on full lock etc is more to do with width, IMO.

I agree. A tyre that is not as wide will pull the side wall in slightly, so will reduce the height of the tyre. So you end up decreasing both sizes and gaining more room!

A narrower tyre would avoid your scenario. It pulls the wall of the tyre in from the wheel arch and makes more space.
I have the same on my journey to work but changing the rears by 10mm solved it :)

Ah, I never thought of it like that

I'd like to raise the car a little, say 10-15mm. I know you can get thicker spring pads for the rear that raise it 5mm, but not seen these for the front. Shame.

Front: ???

Only ones I have ever seen are for pick up vans or 4x4s to raise by an inch or so!
Looks like these...

I bet MachineMonkey would be able to machine something for you to look like this

Drop him a PM.
It would just sit on top of the spring in the strut :)

I currently have 225 on 8J fronts, so they shouldn't be rubbing. The ride is quite rough on these springs too... but yeah, looks good.
