Tyres - whats changed in the last 24 months?

So there once was a time where anything apart from high range tires were frowned upon my those who like a spirited drive every now and again. Issues with safety, quality control and general quality/grip always plagued lower range tires.

However, I have noticed on some forums certain mid range tires are now being fitted to performance cars with good/mixed reviews.

Are there any bargains to be had out there?

Lots of great mid ranged tyres around these days. Many on here use Falkens (452 now 453's) and Vredsteins.

Of course ultimate performance needs top end tyres, so individual call.

I got a set of Vredestein Vorti Tyres on my 108's for 550 quid. I think that's a total bargain and they are UHP tyres so you can't exactly call them mid range.

It's not the 'category' of tyre that makes them 'mid range', it's the brand.

Even Linglong/Sunny/Triangle claim to make UHP/max performance tyres - but they're still what we'd call budget/ditchfinder tyres.

There's nothing wrong with Vreds Vorti or Ultrac Sessanta.

I've found Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2s to be a good balance between value and performance.

Sorry, just noticed this was an old thread. My recommendation still stands though, excellent tyres!

im currently using Nankangs on the back of mine! cost me £200 inc fitting. they have been great so far!

I've nangkang ns2 on the front and avon zz3 on the back and they're pretty average.

much preferred the vredestein ultrac sessantas and gopdyear eagle f1s I had previously.

I got Avon ZZ3 on all 4 tyres but i am not happy with them. It is a really hard tyre compared to Continental sport contact 3 and Pirelli PZero Nero. I think they are also too noisy but i am not sure whether this is due to the rag top or the tyres themselves. From other people reviews i have seen that are commonly thought as an average tyre. It is almost time for me to change tyres now and i was thinking of buying the goodyear Asymetric 2. Anyone has any personal experience of this tyre?

Yes. The goodyears eagle f1's are great tyres.

My Avon ZZ5 s were great on my 3.0i. Great grip wet and dry. Got all four tyres for £600 on 18 inch rims.

They really were great value.

Adamski do yo uknow if ZZ5s are considered better tyres than the ZZ3s? Any noise level issues? My deciding factor will be comfort over grip (wet/dry )because i am using the Z as a casual roadtrip car and not as a track car.For that i have something else :evil:
