Tyres... scrap or re-use?

Picked up a set of wheels today and expect the tires to be scrap. (Getting the wheels refurbished).

The rears I’l definitely replace as they not a million miles away from the wear markers, the fronts though have circa 6mm tread.

Firstly, they are both Continental sport contacts, but one is 2010 and the other is 2013. One has a single, central, puncture repair. Other than this, the tread patterns are almost identical and the condition of the rubber looks very good Indeed, not cracking or degrading.

Any thoughts on re-using the front tires ? Would be a bonus if considered safe as they appear to have loads of life left in them...

Any thoughts?

A 10 year old tyre will be well past its best, and cause a lot of understeer if you pair them with brand new rears. I'd replace all 4.

Hmm, ok, well I was expecting them to be scrap anyway... shame :D

TrueBlue is right unfortunately, at 10 years old the rubber will be significantly plasticised. I once got stung buying some premium Goodyears off ebay years ago that had the full 8mm tread. It was only when they arrived that I spotted they were 7 years old. They were utterly dangerous, esp in the wet. I had to take them straight off and buy new. Lesson learned.

It was Brillomaster that answered, but thanks, I suspected as much to be honest and was expecting to referb the 224’s and Bin the tires anyway
