Tyres saw this on pistonheads

I just called up Camskill with the intention of ordering a set of Falken FK452s for my E92. After asking about prices etc the guy on the other end of the phone asked which car I was going to be putting these on. When I told him he immediately asked about whether it was fitted with run-flats (which it is).

As soon as I told him this he informed me of the following:

1. I have to have permission from my insurance company to change, which I already do so no problem there.

2. That from 2012 tyres and Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS) will for part of the MOT. Having non-run-flat tyres fitted to a car that comes OEM with run-flats will be a fail...

Are there any MOT testers/VOSA boffins that can clarify? Is there any truth to this?

Anybody know?

At a garage getting my fk452s fitted at the moment so asked the folks there about it and they aren't aware of a rule like that being introduced anytime soon.

If you ran a search you'd find that:

1. Is correct in changing you shoudl inform you insurers. 99% have no interest if the tyre is the same size, but it's noted.

2. TPS may well be part of the MOT, not that I've seen any such upcoming regs. In any event the Z uses rotation of the wheels and ABS system so as long as tyres on an axler are the same size and pressure it works just fine

As an aside my 2nd set of Falkens from Camskill were fitted on my Z last week
