Tyres running in???

Hello all.

Just changed the rear set to shinny new MIchelin Pilot Sports oem size (255.40.18 ZR :? 99Y "Extra Load" ?! :? )but here the thing, its all become quite a bit jittery and the car moves at high speed accelaeration and decelaration (just throttling off, not braking). Now it cold be down to a few things?
1. New tyres need running in - is that still true in tis day and age?
2. Difference by the fact the front one are worn (not yet down to the market but the sides have seen planty of action) whilst the rears are new.
3. Front are 95 Y rating not 99 Y "extra load" (I did not eat all the pies) - I dont remember seeing that on the old tyres.

Any clues from your experiences guys?

I'm thinking run them in, if there's stil a difference change the front one - but the 225/45 ZR18 are only in 95Y load thingy which I can't understand its about. Surely the fronts need a bugger load weigting as they have the engine up front?

Tell you what these OEM wheels are getting on my boobs a bit. Just can't find the right sizes same front and back. Time do ditch the wheels me thinks...
 
I'd give it 500 miles or so.........the Vreds that I put on mine earlier in the year were a bit scarey at first.
Car sticks to the road like glue now.
 
Michelin Pilot Super Sports are as rare as Rockinghorse s**t at present and I have decided to opt for Goodyear Eagle F1 Assmmetric 2, which have great reviews, and which I'm having fitted tomorrow.
Back to the OP's query the higher XL load tyres seemed to be fitted to the rear and I guess all new tyres need a certain amount of bedding in.
 
I have just had new rears fitted... drove 70mph in the wet straight after they were fitted... that was scary! The TSC light flicked on a few times even - just going straight :evil:

Covered about 80 miles in them, and are fine now... still the have dimples on them too!
 
Releasing agent from the tyre mould just needs scrubbing off - steady couple of hundred miles normally does it.
 
Every time i put a new set or a pair of rears on my E85 it was really a scary situation.

it used to take me about 1000 miles before i would lean on them hard!

It also happened with my 335d coupe running a new set of Michelin PS2 ZP tyres. PS2 used to be great tyres, but only when run it. all that you have explained happened to me. flashing DSC lamp, no confidence in the car and medium speed bends were very frightening.

PS, the lat set of rear PS3 tyres i put on the E85 took very little time to bed in at all. Go figure!

Update. After a few hundred km its all good. Phew - got me nervous for a while I'd somehow got the wrong spec.

Handles beautifully now so will change the front one too soon.
