Tyres for Z4M

If you go to a wider tire for the front or rear you do get a measure of protection from "curbing" the rims of the wheels.

Well phoned my local tyre fitter for a price on the Sessanta's mainly, asked for PS2 price but they are gonna be to much.....they are getting back to me.
Anyone rate the Toyo T1-R's? Slightly cheaper than the Sessanta's but have heard they are soft.

My tyre fitted recommended to not fit the Sessanta's and recommended i fit 4 of the same tyre, dont mix on the Z4...think i may just get 2 new rear Contisport M3's as the fronts have 3mm of tread left above the wear marker.

Does anyone know how much tread above the wear marker or in total till bald the Contisport (M3 or otherwise) comes with? Trying to work out whether the fronts will need replacing when the backs will if i just replaced the backs now.

I need some rears too.

I’m toying with going to the next size up on the rears and then replacing the fronts in a few thousand miles, but is there any benefit going to 265, 275, 285 or 295. will I get more grip from the rears and if I increase the fronts width, will I lose feel through the steering?

Not sure what aspect ratio I should go for either.

Also concerned about weight, is it possible to find the tyre weights?

I’ve had good years on other cars and found them pretty heavy, so there out.

Lots of questions I know, sorry, guru required :D

tbh i'm thinking of playing safe and go with the tyre that was developed for the E46 M3 and Z4M, ie the stock Contisport M3.
If you look on the previous page there is calcs as to the difference between stock size and other widths/sidewall ratio....bear in mind the stock alloys would probably only take up to a certain size (dont know what) due to their width which is think is 8.5"?

If I go for 265/40/18 on the rear and 245/40/18 on the front, will it alter the how the car feels or increase cornering grip?

I'm assuming these will fit ok

You may lose some feel as they are 245 compared to stock 225 on the front, probably more grip though but thats not the be all and end all.
What particular brand did you have in mind?

Well, you'll be reducing the ratio between the front & rears a little - original 225:255 (88% or 15:17 ratio), upsize 245:265 (92% or 15.7:17 ratio).

I'm thinking of PS2, although the Goodyear’s seem good value and perform well. My car's dry use only, so I a tyre which is more focused to dry weather is an option too
