Tyres for the Z4M

Hi guys

Looking at my options for new tyres for the Z4M and the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 looks to fit the bill. Just priced up a set, front and rear, on MyTyres and found these:

Are these the right sizes and rating for an M? Strange that they're the same price for both sizes and this includes fitting too.

What are your thoughts on these?

Well the fronts are about £133 from Camskill before fitting, so I guess the price is about right.

The rears seem about £20 cheaper than Camskill though, so I'd either double check or be prepared for a delay if they cancel the order due to a pricing error :P

Are the ratings of 95Y XL for the front and 99Y XL for the rear suitable?
 
Try pricing up 235\35\18 and 265\40\18, looks much better with the lower profile. That's what I went for, Goodyear A2's!

225/45r18 to 235/40r18 is a 2.3% reduction in diameter/radius/circumference - and knocks 7mm off the sidewall height.
255/40r18 to 265/35r18 is a 2.7% reduction in diameter/radius/circumference - and knocks 9mm off the sidewall height.

Might have a small negative effect on fuel economy (due to the lower gearing) & ride harshness (due to the smaller sidewall) - the upside is it might have a small positive effect on acceleration and might save you getting speeding points as your speedo will read higher that you're actually going.
 
I think I'll stick to the standard sizes.

Just checked again and even though I chose 'fully fitted', those prices were just for delivered. Grrr.

I believe they're up there with the best of them, along with the Continental CS5s etc.

Not seen any info on their lifespan, but their performance seems up there with the Michelin Pilot SuperSport and Continental SportContact 5.

According to some of the tyre tests - and most have not tested all 3 side by side due to sizing constraints - each of these three perform slightly differently to the other in one or two areas. So (for example) the PSS might be the best in the dry, the F1A2 might be better in wet braking, and the SC5 might be best in wet handling.

No, just replaced my Vreds with Mitchelin Pilot Sports. Old Vreds were very good, but only managed 8k on them.
 
When you get up to that level of tyre performance (top tier brands' top performing tyres) the differences are mostly minor between each model and usually only measurable in lab tests. Unless you're after a specific attribute like top dry handling performance or top wet braking performance etc then you should be safe with whichever.

The new Vredestein's still remain something of an unknown quantity although a test i read somewhere had them finish quite high in the ranking.

To compare, the Michelin PSS that are available both as MO/M0 for Mercedes and the Star (*) for Bmw are not the same tyre.
 
I have the Goodyear F1 Asymetric 2s in those stock sizes on my zed. They are a great compromise, great dry / wet grip and are lasting very well. Enjoy :D
