Stumped on what tyres to go for on the M next.

What ever I look for I can't seem to find a full set

So, what are the top 3 tyres for the M - mix of performance and wear. Road use only, any budget.

1. Conti Sport Contact 5

2. Michelin Pilot Super Sports

3. ?

In M sized 18s work backwards from Michelin & Hankook , Contis are similar priced to Michelins so why buy them ?

Goodyear Assymetric F1 2s.

Brilliant so far, wet or dry. Wearing very well and one of the cheaper options too.

I replaced my rear tyres a month ago, went for Michelin Pilot Super Sports.

Amazing tyre with far superior grip compared to the Contis! You cannot go wrong with them.

Contis M3 are good tyres but rubber tech have come a long way.

For a set of M sized 18s its £60 extra for a set of Michelin PSS (£480 ) over Goodyear F1 (£420) s on Tyreleader ? id pay the extra for Michelins , the F1s may be good but they would need to be much more of a difference to choose them
Hankooks by comparison are £380 for the set of 4

Where can you get a set of PSS for £480?

I've only checked Kwik Fit, Blackcircles & etyres.

I'll have a look on camskill now

Edit: just read it properly - Tyreleader

The Hankook S1 Evo is a great tyre...

I also rate the Vredestein Ultrac Vorti very highly.... Superb tyre.

Don't suppose you missed the alarming similarity in tread pattern to the Michelin PS3s
Tried Sessantas & Cento's but not yet the Vortis :? can't see me being disappointed though as i am a massive Vred fan

I have had Sessantas myself and really likes them..

I rate the Uniroyal RS3's highly too,but never had them on anything over 300bhp..... I bet they are great though.Attractive prices too.

Based on the 2 new Goodyear F1 Assymetrics I got fitted on the front of mine yesterday, they get my vote.

I may be wrong but I think that Vredstein has stopped making the Ultrac Sessantas.

Go for the super sports, in my experience they always seem to last slightly longer yet provide the same levels of grip?

The Eagle F1 assyms are also good, I'd say slightly better than the super sports in the wet but not as good in the dry?

Continentals are utter crap imho :D

Just put Hankook s1 evo 2's on the rear of mine. Yes I know, only 230bhp but they're fantastic. Actually caught me out a couple of times as i'm used to the rear sliding out on worn vredestein sessanta's, whereas the Hankooks grip very very well.

They also appear to be a little wider also, even though they're the same size as the vred's, so you get a little extra rim protection.

I put Hankook S1 evo 2s on mine just before going on our euro trip - same experience as Ben, even on very, very wet twisty roads they performed brilliantly. They're a lot quieter than the Conti M3s they replaced too. Someone posted a link on here to a tyre test that rated them #1 above PSS - think it was Z4M-2006. Cost me £396 delivered for the set from tyreleader and I couldn't be happier. They have zero rim protection, but that actually makes the wheels look really good.

An interesting review of the Hankooks here:

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/accessories-tyres/66053/hankook-ventus-s1-evo2

They are very competitive for everything, but rolling resistance would lead to a 4% hit on mpg, not something I would worry about.

Anyone running Advan Neova AD08s?
I loved those on my E90 330i, unlimited grip in the dry and quite decent in the wet.

Eagle F1 AS2's get my vote, good wet & dry and I prefer the sidewall shape / rim protection to Michelin PSS.

I have Falken Azenis FK453's. Very impressed with them so far. I've done 20k+ miles on the rears and still have 3mm of tread left so they seem to be wearing pretty well.
