Tyres for 18'

I have the standard bridgestone run flat tyres fitted onto my e89 28i.

Front 225, rears 255. I've been looking to replace these with PS4 for both. I check black circles and they only have the 225/40R/R18 for the PS4 available, none for 225/35/R18. Check on michelin's website and they exist.

Am I crazy, or are we in a PS4 shortage? If I'm not able to get hold of these tyres, then what else?

Assuming you are meaning 255 35 18 not 225 35 18 ? If so then go for 245 40 ( rear ) & enjoy improvement in every aspect

Yes meant the 255 35 18. Will that work out fine on the same wheel? being daft :)

superdot, just buy BMW recommended sizes from an outlet that will fit them and guarantee them.

There are too many hassles in life to add more complications.

Fair comment. But we're talking size.

I know  so you're suggesting it's OK to do your own thing regarding brand & function of tyres but with sizes you must follow bmw guidance? :?

Nah, just different points of view. mr wilks may well be right, but I'm cautious about changing tyre profiles.

Changing brands will change the profile/size, even if they say they are the same size. Bit like the dresses you buy

Well, there are a few points here, I will brush over the technical aspects and merits of each tyre, and ask are you aware characteristics and ratings change with profile.
Car manufacturers change alegencies on a whim because they are paid by tyre companies to use their tyres, "recommended" tyres makes tyre companies a lot on money. At the top of the scale you have tyres developed made exclusively for a certain car at great expense, .that makes money for many years to come for tyre manufacturers. And finally we all have much experience with different cars and tyres down the years, so live a little, nothing is right or wrong,

Op I would trust Mr Wilks.
He has had many z4s and many different wheel and tyre brands and size setups!
Not that I disagree with you as Mr Wilks does have a vast knowledge on wheels and tyres but he never seems to keep them for long to find out long term use.

Fair point :D but I do rattle some miles on them  eg 7k on silver-grey MR, 5k on Imola MR, 5k on 35i & 3k on current MR all of which were done on different wheel/tyre combinations.

245 40 18 on a 8.5j rear is a great all round set up

That's what I mean though, how many wheel changes on each of those. Or was the full mileage done on one set on each car?

I do swap & change wheelsets on the Zs but predominantly the bulk of the miles added on each car would be on one set.
I do have 2 other vehicles as well that I don't switch wheels/ tyres.
Workvan on 18inch alloys I do around 15k year so a few tyre changes run full cycle
C class estate on 18s last 4years on a set of winter Hankook ice bears run all year round. Bought new covered 17k total to date & still over 5mm tread.
No relevance to this thread of course :) other than I run 245 40 18 on my C class rear 8.5j
