Tyres... another question(s)

Hi,

I'm just about to get new rear tyres for my Z4 for the first time... there are currently runflats all around. Can someone help me with the following two questions please:

1. Is it ok to replace the two rear run-flats with two non-runflat tyres and leave the current runflats on the front.

2. The million dollar question... what two new rear tyres should i get (i've gone through quite a lot of the threads and it seems that "Falken F452s" are the most popular but i'm not sure if that is for the right or wrong reason)

Thanks in advance guys...

I am no expert but I dont see if there will be any problem with runing non runflats in the back / runflats in front. However if your front tyres are due to be replaced soon you might as well buy a whole set to save some money.

From what I gathered the Falkens are especially popular in Europe and are rates are best value tyres.

The final choice of tyres are all down to personal preferences as to how "predictable" the tyre operates in its limits. So in short. All top performance tyres will give you very good performance over safety and it is down to yourself to try them and find your personal favourite.

I was very happy with the Michellin PS2s before but due to suffering numerous punctures I simply think it is financially unviable to keep replacing them. Thought about Falkens but in the end I settled for Eagle F1 Asy as they appear to be the most progressive towards the limits.

Just for your reference (again final choice is down to personal preferences... all those tyres there are probably similar in quality and performance to be honest):

Good Luck

In terms of mixing run flats and non-runflats this was a query that was raised before and I can remember a number of posters very clearly stating this is not a wise thing to dd. i can't remember the reasons why but there are a lot of bright sparks on here who will probably have very sound reasoning as to why you should not do it.

In terms of tyres there are so many views out there but Falkens definately appear to be difficult to beat (at the price), I put on a set of Toyo T1R's and although they are not fully bedded in and I have not had a chance to drive that much on them I am very pleased to date with their performance.

Good luck anyhow but for me put on a full set of boots.

Thanks for the replies guys, the front tyres are in perfect order. They were put on just before i bought the car... i think i might aswell get a full set, i think it is only right...

I ran RFT's on the front with Falkens on the rear for a month or so. This combo worked ok - maybe a little loud. Put Falkens on the front and the ride has improved again. If you can afford it, change all 4. :D

Ok cool, has anyone else had RFT's on the front and non RFT's on the back... it's not really a matter of cost, more of a matter of waste. The RFT's on the front are in very good condition and don't need to be changed... help... i can't decide on what to do now... someone persuade me

Mixing different tread patterns alone let alone 2 completely different types of tyre on a high performance car is not a good idea at all.

Of course in almost all situations it won't make a jot of difference, but the one time that you overcook it, or need to make a violent avoiding turn and the different grip characteristics cut in then you might regret it.

I'd not want to to explain it to my insurance company or police. Just my 2p worth

Get a full set of tyres and sell the others on Ebay. There's a ready market for them.

Case closed... 4 new tyres it is so... thanks to all

it's a no brainer really 4 x Falken 452's for the price of 2 rear Runflats.

My Front Bridgestone Runflats have been stored just in case I trade the Z4 in at a dealer for a ///M

I'm getting a full set of Falkens fitted for €420 (£375) which i think is quite good. Thanks to all for your advice

Good price.

Now get the fronts sold and it'll go some way towards offsetting the cost of your new boots :)
