39k out of the original front tyres.

Replaced with some Goodyears as the cost was too hard to argue!

Original Continetals on the car were rather battered and we're starting to show age related cracks in the side walls. :driving:

How much did you pay for the goodyears?

I'm just chasnging mine too, originals on the front, only 31k albeit, but 7 year old tyres need replacing anyway, as you have noticed sidewall cracks, hardening compound etc.

39k from one set, is that really from one set of rear tyres???...if so, you're not driving it as it should be driven!!!

Yes stuck to the original size. I went to MicheleDever Tyres and got them fitted for £267 rears were £373.

I then left my phone there and had to go all the way back again :(

My rears have 6mm of tread and this is the 3rd Set. The last were cut short by a filthy screw in one of them which requires a new tyre so had to do a pair. They had 4mm left.

So if we add the Depth up. Always to the wear markers.

7mm + 4mm (nail) + 2mm over 3 sets of rear tyres at 39k
Fronts wear rate is 6mm over 39K. I go as close to the wear indicator as I can.

Does that sound right?

Or am I driving like miss daisy. I noticed I shift at 5.4k revs most of the time. It's a car I would like to keep so don't want to ruin it.

I picked up a small bumper scuff this week at work, blue paint left on my car, so going to get that repair (just paint) and also the work carpark has it's careless door swingers. Need to address these imperfections too!

I have been told it's good to rev it right out regularly. I don't aim to shift at any particular limit, just whatever the conditions dictate.

Revving past 5.4k shouldn't worry you.

Yeah revving past 5.4k won't be an issue. Obviously if your shifting at 8k all the time your engine won't thank you for it. That said, spending time above 6k at least once a month will help burn off some of the nasty deposits that build up :)

It doesn't worry me, It's going at a hell of a pace at 5500rpm. Don't feel the need to go beyond that. I had a Honda S2000 for the last two cars and they Rev out at 9200rpm. The vtec kicked in at 6500rpm so I am used to reving cars. I had bikes that Rev to 15000rpm.

Mechanically wise the more stress you put on anything the quicker things break and wear out. These cars are engineered to rev that high but something suffers. I like to take my time and enjoy the grunt the car has to get past things. Smooth is fast, just the way I have been taught to drive. (IAM's).

worrying about revving this engine is like having a perfect wife and not wanting to make love with her!!!

i rev mine out pretty regularly, probably more than most... I've also seen it cracked open, i can tell you, its doing it no harm. Enjoy with respect and revel is one of the finest engines ever, and tbh..... Engines like the s54 are GONE, so enjoy it.
