Nice gadget, but £165 is way too much. Of course Z4 already has a system so not really required.

This is the cheaper type, the other type that detects wheel rotatation and fitted inside the wheel are over £200.

Yepp my E89 has the TPMS but it wont tell you which tyre has lost air if you have runflats apart from manually checking.

Tim.

It's not exactly rocket science if the system tells you one tyre is low to check visually or with a pressure gauge.
Each to their own but too much for me to cover such a limited problem.

You can't visually check a runflat thats outta air

Might be a limited problem for yourself, potentially a life saver for others.

Bit of an exaggeration Tim, since the zed has a perfectly adequate system that tells you if a tyre is losing pressure, hardly therefore a lifesaver to have a second system operating in tandem. In any event if you had rft's you can drive safely to a stop.

Of course you need to check pressures with a gauge, but FYI a deflated run flat is clearly visible when compared to an inflated one. I know I had one before I ditched them.

As an aside watch put for the locking collars corroding onto the valves. An issue on some as they are not brass.

End of the day great gadget and if you're happy

Why is it an exaggeration? if it tells you that your tyre is deflating by giving you an audible warning or better still before a blow out although probably more unlikely as they would tend to be more sudden then I don't think that is OTT, especially on the motorway at higher speeds.

The Z3 which its fitted too doesn't have a TPMS which is why I fitted it.

To be honest the BMW TPMS is a little basic and crude although does the job to some extent.

Thanks for the tip on the locking collars, can happen but I put a little vaseline on the threads for good measure and shouldn't be a problem if you regularly check tyre pressures. The idea for me is not to replace the frequency of checking your pressures manually but to tell you when you have a puncture whilst driving and hence stopping sooner rather than later.

OK, a quick update, non too pleased :(

Fitted the unit a week ago and the front nearside kept loosing pressure :x I reinflated the tyre and refitted the pressure cap a few times but early Tues morning came out to a tyre with 10psi left in it  Inconvienient so used the Z4. It was too dark to be messing around trying to undo the locking collar. When I came back home inflated the tyre back up and left the pressure cap off, no loss of air which would tell you the cap is faulty.

Called TyrePal who to be honest gave me the impression they didn't wan't to know, I was expecting them to say send the cap back and they would replace it, they're £35 to replace  . Guy on the phone said leave the locking collar off as it might be stopping the cap seating fully, or try one of the other caps on that tyre valve, then suggested it was actually the tyre valve itself that was probably faulty and not their product. The unit has a 12 month guarantee.

Haven't had time to look at it any further as using the Z4 but inclined to leave it off the Z3 now. Pretty dissapointed with their customer service.'

Doesn't sound much use then if the very device that should be telling you about low pressure is actually causing it

Exactly, I still like the idea but my confidence is shaken slightly in the product that now if I leave it on I might get a flat tyre.

I'd get a full refund and rely on the perfectly adequate abs sensor driven system as fitted to all UK Zeds.
You're going to spend the next couple if years worrying if you actually have a flat from the system, wondering if someone has stolen the cap and changing little batteries in it.

The Z3 doesnt have the ABS bases system AFAIK

Spot on and I stand corrected. Confused me with references to both Z3's and Z4's and RFT tyres.

I fitted it to the Z3 as it doesn't have any TPMS, just thought it would be nice to have but seems not. The joke is it works a treat as it beeped like the clappers after it had caused a flat tyre :D :headbang:
