TyrePal - Update

Decided to treat the Z3 to a TyrePal TPMS as will be using it as the winter car for this year :)

Does anyone use one in their Zed? I would imagine it would also be useful on BMWs which already have the runflat indicator as it will tell you which tyre has lost pressure unlike the BMW system :)

Its what BMW should have done but I'm not sure i would pay that much for an add on that didn't look original

I can't help wondering how long the valve caps (which contain the sensors) will last before some scrote decides to liberate them.

And if they had it would have been a £600 option and not as useful

At that price I think I'll stick with my £10 gauge from Halfords and check once a week.

For me I like the idea of being warned of an impending puncture whilst motoring rather than stopping and checking the tyre pressure, plus a useful safety aid for slow punctures :)

Not a lot to pay for safety.

The valve caps are 20mm by 20mm and weigh 11g each. 1.they are huge 2.the wheel will need a rebalance after you fit.

Possibly but very unlikely for most applications and not heard of anyone having wheel balancing issues, might be an issue if you have long valve stems? but mine are very short.

I really like the sound of this bit of kit, ideal for track applications, to know live peak tyre pressures. Once you've finished a cool down lap the temps & pressures have dropped off.

Arrived today so prompt delivery, nice bit of kit and well made and the unit is reasonably small not to be too intrusive, comes with mounting bracket, lithium batteries and lighter adapter etc. Valve caps are quite large but weigh virtually nothing.

Interesting concept, they're actually depressing the valve to monitor the pressure. I hope they're a good snug fit... :?

Let us know how you get on with them, we're all gadget fiends and you don't often see a new one

Fitted TyrePal today after a wash, the Zed not me :)

The pressure monitors come with a locking collar which are a little fiddly to fit as I have very short valve stems but will help prevent sticky fingers nabbing them, each one has a small lithium battery inside which last upto 2 years.

The unit is quite neat although would have preferred a quick release cradle or a better method of mouting the unit lower down by the transmission tunnel. It runs of either 2 AA batteries or via the lighter socket.

Can you tell me the power rating and fitment ie. micro USB of the power lead.

Power rating is 12-30V DC (Mini DC jack), there is no USB connection but plugs into the cars lighter socket. The unit will run on 2 AA batteries instead if required and powers off when it detects no movement. It powers back on as soon as you open the car door when it detects movement.

I think it was originally designed for caravans/trailors/horse boxes where its more difficult to judge a impending flat tyre whilst driving. Expensive but a good safety aid IMHO.

Nice gadget, but £165 is way too much. Of course Z4 already has a system so not really required.

This is the cheaper type, the other type that detects wheel rotatation and fitted inside the wheel are over £200.

Yepp my E89 has the TPMS but it wont tell you which tyre has lost air if you have runflats apart from manually checking.

It's not exactly rocket science if the system tells you one tyre is low to check visually or with a pressure gauge.
Each to their own but too much for me to cover such a limited problem.
