Tyre valve leaking....!!

So I'm 3 months into Cayman ownership. Survived a fish tailing slide off a roundabout 4 weeks ago which took out both of my passenger side tyres and kerbed two of my alloy wheels. Tyre and wheels replaced 1 week later, wallet £700 lighter.

Then last week a blasted closed road sent me down a country lane diversion and I caught a pothole (front passenger side wheel) giving way to a tractor. Wheel and tyre thankfully looked fine. Five days later I go to take the car out of the garage and my pressure sensor alarm signals low front passenger side tyre pressure (losing the will at this point :( :( :( ). Bear in mind this tyre was fitted 3 weeks ago and seen about 30 miles....

My local Watling Tyre centre find that the valve is leaking. The tyre is fine. They have advised to take the car to Porsche which will occur 1400 today. The wheel was kerbed almost adjacent to the valve but Watling insist that kerbing the alloy should not have affected the valve. The kerbing wasn't that bad tbh (see pic).

Any advice greatly appreciated

Cheers :D

I'm not so sure about that kerbing being not so bad, it's done a lot more than scuff the paint & its dug into the alloy :x
Why did the tyre place not just tighten/replace the faulty valve? Are they saying the wheel is cracked around it?
Porsche wheels sound good value, did you say £700 for two tyres & wheels? I was quoted nearly £600 for one wheel alone from bmw

Both tyres came in at £550. The wheels were checked and refurbished by a local alloy wheel specialist for £150. Replacement alloys from Porsche I am sure would have been a grand each :(

The chap who refurbed my wheels (a pal of mine who I do trust) did a thorough check and ruled out any cracks or radial distortion. The reason Watling declined to repair/replace the valve was that they felt as there is a pressure sensor connected they didn't want to tamper with this in case Porsche decide to void any warranty....

Wish me luck

Cheers JC :D

You're not having any luck with this at all are you :o

That's a fairly nasty chunk, could well have affected the valve, or even cracked a rim.

Remove the valve cap and put some washing up liquid over the valve. You should see bubbles if the valve is leaking. If it is coming out the side there is nothing you can do. But if it is coming out where the valve cap was then the small valve is either loose or leaking. You can buy a small valve key to tighten it down. Given your history with wheels might I suggest you take out tyre insurance when you get a new tyre?

Just got home from Porsche Tonbridge.

It was just a faulty valve, phew! They reckon that when the wheel was refurbed the valve may been damaged..... Anyway, I'm just glad I didn't need a new wheel. The only glitch is that they only had silver finish valves which looks interesting on a black rim but they will call me back when black ones are in stock :)

Best of all, nothing to pay :D

Cheers :D
