Tyre Surprise

I'm not sure why you introduced the ( I assume ) the US $ into the mix ?

Just because the tyres are made in the EU (I assume) doesn't mean that the price isn't influenced by other markets, it's a global economy after all. The rubber might come from elsewhere, improving economy in Asia/America might cause higher labour costs within the EU, etc. I just mentioned the dollar because I always find it odd when anyone mentions how to pound is improving when in fact it's been falling, perhaps not as fast as the euro, which is also why foreigners suddenly find the UK so cheap.

Fall in price is probably because there is less demand, many people trying on cheaper or non-eu made tyres, the season, longer-lasting tyres, etc.

The £ is 25% up on the € last year - so imported goods from Europe are significantly less expensive than they were last year.

Ask people from Europe if they find the UK cheap!

The converse is true - I find when I go to Europe, it's much cheaper than it was a year ago.

I had a puncture about 3 weeks ago on my pirelli nero gt 19" and knew it was going to cost a tad under £200 fitted. I checked with a nearby mobile fitter and it was £145, maybe you're right the prices might have fallen a bit. I doubt it's anything to do with £ to € as the £ is at an all time low especially against the dollar (only £ = $1.5!). I remember my last set of 4 was £600+ and that's after shopping around and when buying 4 as a deal.

Btw I didn't end up having to buy a tyre. When the mobile repairer came he said he could fix it and it cost £30 which is good as the tyres are only 5 months/5kmiles old.

If you're replacing all 4's then definitely consider ditching runflats.

I got 2 brand new Uniroyal's for £117 delivered + £20 fitted. Sounds like he is expensive :poke:

OP was talking about premium tyres, Uniroyal is in the 'quality' category. Personally I'd stick with premium as well, they handle better, less noise, last a bit longer and more worthwhile to repair if you have a puncture.

Same place as I got my cheap tyres from are also selling PREMIUM tyres quite cheap :poke:
