Tyre Suggestions

Hi guys,

Have been really loving getting to know my new E86 but one thing that is needs imminently is a set of front tyres due to the tread being low. Its currently on Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta 225/40 ZR18 92Y with some other Vredesteins on the rears (but these were only recently changed and will be staying on the car). Was inclined to replace like for like but nowhere local seems to be able to get those tyres in. Have any of you guys got any suggestions what might be a good tyre to swap to. Ideally it would be something my local is likely to have in or can get in fairly easily.

My daily has Goodyear Eagle F1s, great all rounder, amazing in the wet, very confidence inspiring, but compromise all out dry speed because of the all weather ability. Not as expensive as Michelins and Conti's and last well. Good availability too, order from Camskill and get your local mobile tyre fitter to change for you - you'll save a packet.
 
Whats wrong with replacing with the Vreds you are currently running - good tyre imo.
If you want a change then I agree with bmwaddict go for Goodyear Eagle F1s
 
Meant to say the fronts are low on tread hence the needing to change but the rears are absolutely fine and will be staying! I'll change my original wording.
 
Just put two Goodyear F 1 s on the front of mine,done away with the dreadful runflats,went up to Snowdonia over the weekend and they performed very well,as usual it rained as expected in Wales ,car was transformed just by changing the fronts
 
Thanks for your responses. I think I agree the Goodyear eagle f1s look good. Reasonable price and good ratings in terms of wet weather performance/fuel economy.
 
You should be able to get Replacement VREDS on line and then pay a local tyre shop to fit & balance them. Bare in mind, You'll need another vehicle to move the tyres to the tyre shop. Or you can just take the wheels and leave the Zed on stands for an hour.

I moved over from VREDs to MPSS a few years back. Both good tyres on the E85. I can vouch that they work well with MPSS on the front and VREDS on the year, as I also swapped mine out tow by two. :)
 
I order online and ship to my fitters. Much cheaper than going somewhere and buying off the shelf and gives a full choice of tyres available.

My shortlist looks like:

Continental Sport Contact 5
Goodyear Eagle F1 Ass. 3
Michelin Pilot Sport 4

Blackcircles.com and camskill are my first ports of call.
 
Hi guys, thanks for the inputs. Got the tyres changed this morning and went for the Goodyear Eagle F1s. Already noticing the ride seems a bit smoother. Went for a full alignment to make sure i'm off to a good start too.

how much was the alignment and who did you use :thumbsup:
 
Bz4kev, alignment ended up being £60 with all 4 wheels needing adjustment, went with our local merityre for convenience
 
The latest tyre test ( Auto express) done on a VW Golf , and the winner was the Michelin pilot sport 4.
Surprisingly, the Goodyear F1 A3 didn't do that well.

I have Goodyear F1 A2 (non run flats) on my Coupe at the moment and they seem good but I cant compare as that's what they had when I bought the car!

I am changing to 18's soon ( if the drives not too compromised by the larger wheels) and will probably put some of those Michelin Pilot Sports on them although I suppose what works best on a Golf might be different on a rear wheels drive Coupe with staggered wheels!
