Tyre sizes???

Good evening one and all, I Need to replace the rear tyres on my Z4, I was just pondering if there is an alternative to 255 35 18 tyre size. Has anyone changed to a different size and experienced any benefit in performance, grip and handling etc?

I have researched the alternative to non run flats but my fronts are relatively new, is it advisable or not to replace the rears with non run flat and keep run flats at the front or replace all four at the same time?

I would welcome suggestions from anyone which is the best option, I really enjoy the car and my driving style is that of exploring the outer limits when on my own.

I'm really on the verge of follow the herd and changing to NFT'S, possibly Falken all round and carrying a space saver and jack!

With anticipation many thanks

Mike

Insurance is one reason to stick with the standard sizes, you could put something wider on but not sure of the benefit TBH.

The debate about mixing tyres has been done many rims, personally I wouldn't mix RFT and non-RFT front and rear, especially if you enjoy exploring the limits.

You will be able to replace all four with standard tyres for the price of two rear RFTs so nothing in it in terms of cost.

Loridan1966, you can run without any problem 235-40/18 front and 265-35/18 on the rear. I ran that combination on my previous 3.0si but as Wondermike mentioned I am not sure that there is any advantage and the just slightly larger tires can be quite a bit more expensive.

That's what I currently run but I also have spacers on both front and rear..hugs the wheel well perfectly w/no problems..
