Tyre size advice needed please?

Hi Guys- just got some 18" split rim 180 wheels- they are 8J at front and 8.5J rear. Local dealer recommends either Continental or Bridgestone non rft in sizes 225/40/18 front and 255/35/18 rear- I was surprised at the difference in profile 40-35 ??- is it usual to have a lower profile on the rear ??

40% of 225 = 35% of 255
so the outside diameter is the same on front and back.
