Tyre question

 Co, Durham.
Help needed please,thinking of buying a coupe. Car comes with 2 sets of wheels runflats on 108s and standard tyres on 135s can i put the run flats on the 135s or do the wheels require some type of sensor to detect a puncture.

Runflats don't need a special wheel or sensor. You can put normal tyres or the runflats on the wheels no problem.
My advice would be to ditch the runflats! A search on here will bring up many options.
 
I thought the runflats needed a sensor on the valve, to detect pressure loss? Otherwise, how does the car know you've lost pressure in a tyre?

For Euro cars it just uses the ABS sensor to detect changes in rotation rates. I've read that US cars have an actual sensor on the valve but not certain about that.

really?! I'd be surprised that they'd employ 2 different methods dependent on market.. and the rotation rate bit sounds like you're describing how the cars traction control system would detect a slipping wheel...
 
Thanks for the info hope i can do the swap I know a lot go for the non runflats but i had a couple of VXs and have had enough of the cans of gunk. Sure you can swap tyres or you would have run flat and non runflat wheels advertised (does that make sense????) Going to check the the car over, hope it's spot on as we are 300 miles up the road

ah. curiosity got the better of me. there are apparently two main types of tyre pressure monitoring system... just read about it on wikipedia. my apologies! :)

direct: sensor in the tyre
indirect: monitors rotational rates of each wheel

The Z4 uses the abs wheel speed sensors to detect a change in wheel speed as the rolling circumference of the tyre changes when deflated.
 
I'd leave the runflats on the 108s and the non-runflats on the 135s, and pick/choose which you want to roll on! either will work with the car. Dunno if you can fit the runflat tyres on the 135s, depends if the rim is designed to take them - I'd say its most likely but someone on here might know. I hope the car turns out alright, make sure that you let us know on the forum (with a few pics) if you get it! :)

Thanks again but not making trip 4 previous owner's on 17,000 miles on a 57 puts me off. I would be 5th owner and trying to sell a 4 and a half year old car. Search goes on...6 months since the roadster disappeared and growing tired of the little Micra
(at least it's brill in the snow).

Low tyre pressure sensor came on in the car last night, pulled into a garage checked the pressure of each tyre it was ok, so reset the pressure indicator , 5 mile along the road ( now on the M80) came back on , so reset it again, drove home , checked again this morning everything seems ok , could a temprature of -12 or slush stuck to the tyres confuse the ABS system ? Im still on runflats!
