Looking at Michellin Pilot PS2's ...........

I believe I need 255 / 40/ 18 on the back ........... but all Ive managed to find right now are 265 / 40 / 18's ............
Its only 10 mm and Im thinking it would work ...... but when Im paying that amount of money I want to get it right .........

Opinions please ........... will the 265 be ok or should I be patient and wait till I find a 255 .............. ?

I've got the Pilot SuperSports in 265/40r18 on the back of mine, and they seem to be fine, and have just completed a 2,000 mile trip to the 'Ring & back (including about 400 'Ring miles), and don't look like they've been used at all.

Yes, it seems there are surprisingly few tyres that come in OEM sizes for the front and rear on an M.

Like mmm-five, I've plonked 265/40/18 Pilot SuperSports on the back of mine (I have 225/45/18s PSS on the front). Apart from what turned out to be a spurious low tyre pressure warning after about 100 miles, I've had absolutely no problems and no clearance issues at all in over 1,000 miles.

Lookswise, they fill out the wheel arches a little more and protrude outwards from the wheel a bit more. But it's nothing a casual observer would notice, and it seems like they'd offer a bit more protection from the dreaded kerbs.

The diameter of the 265/40/18 is only 8mm (1.2%) bigger than OEM, which according to this tyre size calculator:

http://www.tyresave.co.uk/tyresize.html

is well within the recommended tolerance of plus or minus 2.5%.
