Tyre pump/valve connection

My compressor needs a new tyre connector and gauge - - Ive had a couple of cheapo jobs but none have really made a good seal and both have leaked.
They aren't something I use a lot, just the odd tyre psi top up on the cars, so I don't want to spend an arm and leg on some fancy kit.

Ive looked on Tool Station /Screw Fix / Amazon ? Ebay but they all look good on the sales pictures - so the question is, has anyone bought one that works ok?

Hi Ron. I bought this PCL one on EBay 3 or 4 years ago and use it weekly on 4 vehicles in the family. Very accurate when checked back to back with my digital gauge. Not cheap but good quality and promises to last a while

It’s probably more than I contemplated spending but I remind myself of the “buy cheap and buy twice “ rule!

I use a cheapo Halfords compressor which cost me, i think, about £15 a few years ago.

I use it every now and again on my zed and the wife’s Audi, does a good job, I don’t see why I should pay any more than that.

I bought a cheapo Halfords as well for keeping in the boot of the Zed, but I've used it loads of times to pump up the tyres on Mother's MkII Fiesta which hasn't moved for years.
This one I think:
https://www.halfords.com/tools/garage-equipment/tyre-inflators-and-pressure-gauges/essentials-analogue-tyre-inflator-708319.html

I also keep a compressor in the boot of the cars but the connector and gauge is for my compressor and airline in my garage.
It’s a sledgehammer to crack a nut but it does make things easy.

I ordered one of these and it arrived on Friday - it certainly is very good quality and I’ve no doubt that it will outlast me.
The only problem is I will have to buy a 1/4”Bsp Vs quick adaptor to match the rest of my air kit. At £1.75p from screwfix that’s not going to break the bank!

I amused myself by restoring a Kismet Duplex pump, I heard they were supplied to Rolls Royce

I’m sure my Grandfather had a pump like that - I just have that picture in my minds eye.

Good quality kit is the best option generally - I bought a 3 ton Epco trolley jack 35 years ago (used) , it’s built like a battleship. I put new seals and hydraulic fluid in it soon after and it’s something else that will outlast me!

I've got a BMW/MINI compressor, had it years and its never let me down and has got me out of a few flat tyre situations.

I've also got a 50 year old Dunlop footpump like Robs if all else fails and fancy some exercise :)

Tim.

+1 on that Halfords cheapo. Had it for years; works fine.

I carry a a small compressor in the cars but I'm referring to the kit to connect my airline in the garage.

I like the engineering on these pumps so much I’ve actually bought myself a 3rd one to play with, it’s a Kismet “Lorry” as opposed to the previous Kismet Duplex pumps - it’s not as technically advanced as its only got one piston instead of the Duplex twin piston design which compresses the air twice.
I’ve not started this one yet, i want something to do over winter

Luckily, despite going under in 1956 I’ve found someone who makes new leather seals for them.

I heard they went out of business because the pressure got too much for them

Oh dear ..give a Bear a chance and he’ll take it…I was fortunate on my visit not to to see his pump collection… :tumbleweed:
