Tyre profile on 18,s

50 :? 18inch on a X3 or X5 but not on a Z :( go 40 & 35 or 45 & 40 depending on what you want from the tyres & car

I'd go with the M Spec sizes so 225x45 and 255x40. Will be more comfortable than the standard 225x40 and 255x35. Very tiny decernable visual difference and they look fine on the M cars!

Only difference is it makes about a 3% difference to your speedo, however as the cars under read by about 3% or so in the first place it actual results in a more accurate speedo! a win win then.

Some members have previously moved to the above with no issues reported and Ill be doing it when my current tyres are worn down, although at 2-3k a year, it might be while yet!

M spec does make tyres more expensive though as they are less common.

I've just bought two new 225/40/18 front tyres and wishing I had got 235/40/18 for a bit more front grip. The newer BMW cars are now using a 2cm stagger rather than 3cm like they used to.

When i change the rears soon I think I will try 245/40/18 which are about £50 cheaper per pair. That will give less of a stagger plus it will fit on the standard 8.5J rim better as 255 is as big as you should go, 235 or 245 are the ideal sizes. For example a new M3 runs 255 up front but on a 9J, a Nissan GTR does the same on a 9.5J and an F-Type R the same again on a 10.5.

If an M with more power only needs 255 then my N52 will be fine with 245, plus the 135 comes with 245 and that has c.300bhp & lb/ft.
