Tyre Pressure Sensors With Non BMW Wheels

I'm new to the forum as I pick up my new 2.0iS in three weeks and I'm counting down the days! ( got a fantastic deal registered in Oct 12 with 73 miles £20900 !)

Can anyone tell me whether I will have problems with the tyre pressure sensors ( ie will the system contsantly activate a warning ) if I fit aftermarket Alloy wheels and Non RFTs.

Bye the way does anyone know the correct offset for 17"alloys on the Z4?

Ive currently got a 330d E92 that Ive run non RFTs with no problems but that was using the original BMW Alloy wheels. After 3 bad winters Ive had enough of the white knuckle ride and decided to get a set of winter tyres but dont fancy the £1600 BMW want for their winter tyre set. Thanks :D

Hi Napastar welcome aboard
There's no problem putting non bmw wheels on but you will have to reset the sensor
Have a look in your manuel its dead easy
Carn't remember the offset sorry !

Congratulations, standard offset for 17" wheels is 29 all-round (17 x 8.0), for a staggered set up the rears are 40, on the e89 this is only available on 18" wheels (18 x 8.5). You can run +/- 5mm difference in offset easily or you can reduce the offset down with spacers if you so desire.

I used the the standard set of 17" wheels as winters, running Falken 439's and purchased a set of BBS CK 18" with Goodyears F1 A2 and the car suits a larger wheel, visually with 19" looking optimum IMHO and you don't need to run the wider wheels at the back which reduces tyre cost

The system measures /counts wheel rotatation so no liitle black box in each wheel. Thats the reason why you drive after a reset to enable the system to get it act together!
