Tyre Pressure Light Came On...

...last night whilst I was out for a hoon.

Had the car 4 months now and never needed to top up the tyres with air but last night the red "run flat" light came on.

Checked the pressures and the front offside tyre was down to 23psi. All of the others were fine.

I went to put some more air in it and reset the computer so hopefully it'll still be inflated tonight when I get back to it. I really hope it's not a cracked alloy (326 type)!

If it's a cracked alloy it's well worth trying the dealer, especially if the car is under warranty. As long as there's no impact damage you have a fighting chance. Failing that a decent wheel place can weld it.

best check it as if it is a nail runflat punctures can be repaired as long as the tyre pressure hasn't dropped too low
( as told by local tyre dealer)

Not checked for nails/screws as yet but i'm going to do that tonight. I believe you can get runflats repaired if the nail/screw is in the correct place. Fingers crossed!

It was a nail. Found it tonight. It's buried in the inside quarter of the tread. Hope it's repairable as I don't fancy a £250 bill for a new tyre!

Thought it might be, I've had just the same... fortunately the tyre that went only had 3mm tread left anyhow so I replaced them. £600 for both fronts... :dizzy:

Wow - that's quite expensive!
I've only done 1300 miles or so in the car so I don't fancy having to pay for a new tyre at this early stage.

Should be able to be plugged for about £20... common repair...

What speed is a plugged/repaired tyre safe to? Is it as good as new?
Had one of my RFT's plugged about 18 months ago,had many enthusiastic Hoon's since with no problems

I think about my Germany trips tho and long periods of speed. I dont think they do tyre repairs in Germany. Perhaps they have a reason?

probably want you to spend more money and contribute saving the euro zone :)

I have had to replace both my rear tyres since getting the car just under 2 years ago becuase of them getting nails in. The third time one got a nail in they were able to repair it due to it's position and that the tyre had not fully deflated. I got a screw in one the other week but by some miracle it had not puntured through the tyre. I had never had a puncture on a tyre until i got my Z4 with runflats on  .

I would have got rid of the run flats when I got the car but it had 4 brand new ones on it. Next time I need a new one they will all be getting replaced with none run flats.

My local friendly BMW dealer told me this morning that it will need a new tyre - the nail is too close to the edge of the tyre to repair it.

£234!

Oh well......looks like a quiet weekend is on the cards.

I feel your pain... been there. These cars are mentally expensive at times... how many times I've considered going back to something 'normal'...

Try a proper tyre place first!
I was told I needed tyres on my car, they were down to 3mm. Close but not do it now close!
