Tyre Pressure Gauges

Hi folks,

Apologies for another fairly drab post.

I swear there used to be a time when you'd by a pressure gauge and it works and now they are garbage.

I'm reffering to the pen/pencil type with the cylindrical indicator shaft that pops up. I've never had a problem with them but this one I got just wont give a consistent reading so I have to check several times until I see the desired pressure come up regularly enough to be ok with it.

It might just be a dud item but to save me falling foul again what do people use/recommend? I've always used the pen/pencil so that type would be my preference, though happy to here your 2 cents.

It actually fits in perfectly on the z4 dash just above the headlight dials so its hidden behind the steering wheel but easy to see when needed.
Its suprisingly accurate. is always the same reading as any petrol station air pump. Interesting seeing the pressure change depending on what side of the car the suns been on etc.

The downside is the horrible bulky valve caps you need to use.
 
Ride magazine did a test of tyre pressure gauges a few years ago, the Halfords battery powered ones were very accurate in the test. They were accurate to less than half a PSI all the way up to 60PSI.

I've been using mine for a few years and have had no problems.

I have always preferred a dial gauge type, one that will hold the pressure reading until you release the pressure by pushing a button on the gauge. I have used both the pencil and the electric type and will stick with a gauge.

My newest one is a JACO Elite Tire Pressure Gauge - 60 PSI (on Amazon for about $18 USD) nice gauge, swivel head 180 degrees, brass components, rubber encased around the gauge (I've dropped my gauges countless times, I'm sure that will help when this one hits the garage floor) and it glows in the dark (once exposed to some light source)...and doesn't need a battery !
 
I bought my Halfords motorcycle gauge about 12 years ago and it's still on the original battery. My car one in the link I bought about 5 years ago and it's also still on its original battery.
The only reason I bought them was due to their high accuracy results in the tests.

had an analog draper tyre pressure gauge for years now, hasn't let me down so far! just the ticket for letting a precise amount of air out the tyres when they get hot on a trackday.
