Tyre Inflator

For those us that don't have the luxury of a garage with a compressor and air line, this Ring RTC1000 is a great little gadget for keeping the tyres inflated correctly. You set the pressure required and turn it on, once the pressure is reached it automatically switches off. It's very quiet in operation and the 12V socket cable winds into the casing. The screen is backlit and has a LED light. It's pretty accurate too, after inflating I checked it with my Michelin tyre pressure gauge and they both gave the same result. Comes with a carry case so I can just leave it in the boot of the car. I found it pretty impressive so I thought I share it with you guys. :D

Yes, will it top up a few times as the pressure always seem to drop slightly when pumps stop.
Or does it start automatically to top up to correct pressure.
I know my manually switched Ring pump needs a few tries before the tyre pressure settles.

I have a cheaper model in that range and have been looking to change. Does this do .1 of bar or only .5? Also, do you loose much unscrewing it from the valve? I cut mine off and put a lever type adapter on.

Are you comfortable using it in its own without a separate pressure gauge? I’d like to ditch the separate gauge cos half the time I don’t seat it correctly and lose air.

It doesn't seem to loose too much pressure when unscrewing it. I set the pressure to 3.0 bar the tyre was 2.75 bar, I checked it with my Michelin tyre pressure gauge. After it finished doing its thing I checked it again with the Michelin pressure gauge and it showed 3.0 bars. So from what I can see it's pretty accurate. It seems to get to your desired pressure rating and then holds for a few seconds before finally switching off, maybe it's compensating for when you unscrew it, I don't really know. I am going to try it a couple more times just to be sure but from what I saw today I would be comfortable just using this on its own without the need for a separate gauge.

I have a similar pump (Pirelli branded) but don’t trust the fauve on it. It’s always a couple of PSI out and his far out it is changes the more it’s used i.e. 2 psi on the first tyre but maybe only 1psi by the time I do the fourth tyre.
I keep a separate digital gauge in the box with it that I know is spot-on.

I will test it out a few more times before I finally ditch my separate gauge. If I find anything different I'll report it here.

A quick update to anyone interested. I have now tested this compressor again on my wife's car all four tyres and the pressure reading on this Ring inflator was exactly the same that I got on my Michelin tyre pressure gauge. There doesn't seem to be much loss of pressure when unscrewing it from the valve. I don't think I will using a separate pressure gauge from now on. This thing is very impressive.

That's brilliant, thanks for the update.

I might get one, and saving the hassle of using a separate check means I might do them more often than the current "several" months apart!

So when to check tyre pressure?
I fitted some cheap tyre pressure monitors to light aircraft tyres, we were having 3-4 flats year.
I wanted to monitor any sudden reduction in pressure.
It's interesting to note how much tyre pressure varies with altitude and temperature. Can increase 2-3 psi at 3000 feet.
So should we check tyre pressures when atmospheric pressure is high or low?

I think I would just check it once a month or if the car goes bong! I knew the pressure changes with temperature didn't know about altitude.

To honest i thought it would decrease.
Would be interesting to take pressure when high and low atmospheric pressure.
The later cars with tyre pressure monitoring could do that, but would obviously have to take temperature into account.

No idea about altitude. Not really relevant where I live.

Deb's 1'er has the tyre pressure monitoring system that shows the pressure, whereas mine doesn't tell me the pressure.

On cold mornings hers will bong saying the pressure is low, even though normally when its warmer, they are correct.

Yes, the E89 is fairly dumb and shows the tyre pressures are ok/ as set - Our 335 (2016) shows the pressure set to 0.1 psi but to get all four tyres to the exact pressure is an impossible task using the analogue gauge on the compressor.

How has it been since your last entry? Are you still happy with it’s accuracy?

I ordered one yesterday!

To be honest I have not used it since the last post as both cars are hardly being used right now due to being in lock down but the results have been the same each time I have used it so I don't think you should have any problems.
