Tyre fitments and rim sizes?

Basically I've got stock 108's at the moment but looking at changing them.
The standard run flats I've got are fine tread wise so am looking to just swap the rims and keep the tyres

I currently know nothing about tyre fitments and rim dimensions, the tyres say 225/40R18 88w (front) and 255/35R18 90w (rear), do the different dimensions make them a "staggered" set?

Just seen the new Finichi Bayern in Matt black in the sept issue of Performance BMW that they have fitted on a 1 series, they got a set 19" staggered

Would my tyres fit on a set of 18" staggered?

Forgive my ignorance :(

Staggered just means the front & rear tyres are different sizes - usually just that the rears are wider, but sometimes the rears are a different diameter wheel too.

In your case, you'd have to find out the width the wheels you are looking are (e.g 7Jx18 or 9Jx18 - for 7" and 9" widths respectively) and then you'd be able to work/find out whether your current tyres are suitable.

However if you're running runflats, you need a wheel that is designed to use runflats.
