Tyre confusion!

After reading several posts on the RFT / non-RFT subject, I was preparing to go either:

1. Switch to non-RFT Falken FK452, Or

2. Try Michelin RFT tyres – PS2 ZP

Advice so far from three tyre centres is:

* Do not fit the Falken 452 (or any other non-RFT) to my standard rims as this will invalidate my insurance

* Ditto as my car will then fail its MOT :x

* Michelin do not make a run flat tyre in my size (2.0L Z4 standard tyres, being 225 50 16 all round) :?

Now what?

It won't invalidate your insurance as long as you fit a UK legal tyre - don't know what it does to BMW warranty though as I don't think wheels & tyres are included in the warranty anyway

It won't mess up your MOT as long as you have a legal tyre fitted at MOT time

Couldn't find any Michelin tyres in your size except for a Porsche fitment MXX3 (Pilot Sport starts at 17")

you need to tell your insurance company as they maynot accept the modification, mine is OK, and I will be getting Falkens very soon only 2mm of rear tread left.

With regard to BMW warranty this shouldnt be affected either as I asked them a little while ago.

Some tyre companies are just ignorant, or else they want to sell RFT's only because they cost a lot more.

Non run flats aren't a MOT failure, you don't even have to have a spare wheel to pass a MOT, so that garage is talking crap. As long as a tyre has 1.6mm of tread over the centre 3/4 of the tread and round the entire "outer" circumference then it will pass an MOT. The inner circumference doesn't have to be at 1.6mm though, alot of testers seem to be of the opinion that it does. They are wrong.
