Thanks for all the responses. Happened to be near Heathrow for work today, so decided to go for the Michelin Pilot Super Sport as they were in stock at lovetyres.

I replaced my Contis with Michelin PSS's and so far can give them the big thumbs up 
Turn in bit is a massive improvement as is over all traction. I haven't really pushed them as they've only been on a few days but 1st impressions are they are a massive improvement over the OEM fit Contis.
had to go 265 rears as 255 wasn't available at Cams or Black Circles.

Furthering this thread, as when it comes to numbers my brain fails and having had a tyre / wheel meet solid object moment and wrecking the sidewall, I'm now forced to get some new tyres for the rear earlier than expected...
The standard 18in M tyres are 225/40 Front and 255/35 Rear. On the front my tyres rub the arches on the inside on half lock to full lock, especially when in reverse...
What would be the implication to step outside of these measurements..? Let's say for a lower profile..? I notice you don't mention the Vredstein Ultrac Sessanta's have people gone off these..? I'm only doing about 5,000 miles a year on mine so wear rate is of low importance, grip ranks much higher.

I've not driven it into anything and neither has the mrs...is there a chance that someone has parallel parked and pushed against the front of the car or something equally horrendous, the paint is fine (bar the odd stone chip)...? the rubbing is only on the front wheels and only at the front of the wheel well.
Can I go down in sidewall profile to help..?
I don't think MSS come in OEM sizes for both front and back (which is illegal over here) but the MPS2's are superior to the PS3's (which were not replacements for Ps2's) in grip feel and handling. They last well on road and are very good in the wet. Don't overheat them on track though as the sides do suffer. Ideal choice would be Michelins SS, their like PS2's super ++!

225/45r18 and 255/40r18 OEM sizes have been available since the beginning of the year.
I've stuck with the 265/40r18 as it makes the speedo show closer to my GPS reading.
PSS are the replacement for the PS2 - which are better in all areas than the PS2, especially wear rate which in my case went from 12,000 miles to about 19,000 miles.
PS3 are the replacement for the Exalto - which is a 'performance' touring tyre and are probably as good as the old PS2 was whilst lasting longer.
In most of the tests I've seen the PSS/F1A2/SC5 regularly beat the PS3 in performance tests. Noise & fuel ratings on the new labelling may be better on the PS3 though.

Great news on the MPSS! They're suposed to be much better on track too resisting higher temperatures?
