Tyre Choice

not sure for a z4(wanting the same info),any1 any info on that?
as for other cars i have owned, betwn 20 and 30,000miles from the vrdstns(ftd to modified vauxhalls/seat leon cupras, etc);compared to 5 to 10k mls less on any other premium brands!!

question. i have the potenza runflats on my Z4 but i wanted to check the correct tyre pressure but cant find it anywhere. checked the drivers door jam and the only eading said 2.3 bar front tyres and 2.7bar the rear tyres. seems pretty high that to me anyone else know where i can find the correct tyre pressures? asked the dealer and hey said check the door jam. i am rnning 18's with M double spoke rims. :?

Sounds about right. What's that in psi, 32 and 36, something like that?

yeah, what it says in the door jam will be rt/they are apparently meant to be inflated that hard. i thot it was too hi when i bt my car back in 2007/tho the figures are correct

If you want to change to non-RFT then change them before they are used up. You can then keep them and fit them before trade-in.

Yes, but my local stealer said they look for 5mm min. No idea if thay all do that.

I've saved my Bridgestones to put back on when I sell. I don't think it is 5mm tbh, thats pretty high, my rears probably have about 3mm left on, and I only did a couple of thousand on them before changing, prob had 4mm on when I got it from the dealer.

I've changed to Falkerns, and they are much better, ride is better and handling. Although it still rides very firmly (made worse by our crappy roads), it doesn't crash about as much.

I'm about half of the way through the useable life on my FK452 at 7,000 miles or so on them, so probably 14,000 miles tops on a set at the rears I'd say... fronts look like they'll go to 16,000 maybe.

I rekon thats pretty good considering they are under half as much as Bridgestones... sounds low at ~ 14,000 miles on the rears but my driving cycle includes lots of tyre wear  :P

no,14k prob about rt,as far as i have read on variuos fourums anything from 10k up is normal on the rear(tho some ppl do get alot more, they must be driving like old women, haha). i get 12-14k out of bridgstn runflats, tho am planning to change soon/to either falken 452s or vrdstn ultracs sessantas(non rft's),and cant wait :D
what do u guys who have switched to non runflats buy for inflating tyre if punctured? seen a kit on net once for 25quid,that was an air compressor and tyrefoam, tho cant find it again/any1 any info on this,or altrntvs??

Mos tuse the BMW Motability kit that is standard kit ont he ///M's since they don't have rft's. alternatives are the Halfords type inflation can of gunk. Some carry an E46 spare and associated jacks, brace, etc.

I'm using the Moptability kit and a 17" RFT as a long journey back up. Scissor jack is deep in the engine bay and motability kit in the boot

Cheers,cj10jeeper.
Did you buy the kit from your local dealer,or is there smwr online cheaper/better?
So where do you keep the scissor jack in the engine bay, that it stays put,safely??/and this is bmw jack too?
cheers

Right, getting rid of the runflats :D 4 Falken 452s being fitted to the Coupe on Saturday morning. Be interesting to see how the car responds and how the tyres fare. Looking forward to it!

Pauly - Just to give you an idea, my RFTs are almost shot on the rear, but 6mm on the front. I've done 20,000 miles.

Let me know how you get on with the new tyres! I'm changing very soon!

Just got back from having Michelin PS2 ZPs put on. Granted they're brand new and the OEMs were at 30K (and getting loud). Fabulous is all I can say. Once I've put a few miles on them to run off the mold release agent, I'll start pushing her a little and see how they handle. Of course, other than treadlife that really blows, I had no complaints with the OEMs-they stuck like glue when pushed.

Yep, one of my rears is shot - 18,500miles, the other is half worn as I had a puncture at the beginning of the year. The fronts are about 3-4mm in the middle, with the shoulders looking pretty worn and low. I've obviously been punishing my fronts a bit more than you...

So all in all they've done pretty well and I'll probably just salvage the half worn rear and leave the rest with the fitters. Will provide some feedback on the tyres and overall ride of the car early next week.

Yep. In our tire size, they're really about the only option at this time. Continental is making a runflat and so is Kumho. No Kumhos in country yet and no Contis in our size. The Michelins even have the BMW star on them, so no problems with any warranty or insurance issues. She's in at the dealer for an alignment this morning-even at $160, that's less than half the cost of just one tire!

Interested to know that too. Although, my (non-BMW) scissor jack fits nicely in one of the spaces at the side of the boot (inside a padded bag).

hey guys has anyone ever tried

VREDESTEIN ULTRAC SESSANTA

some of the guys i drive with from the supra forums reckon they are one of the best tyres for wt and dry driving. camskill have them on offer for £86 front and £108 rear, not too far from falkens

I recently got falken 452's in the back.. never thought about tire pressure until I read the comment above. Do non-RFTs need less pressure?

What do people inflate their falken 452's to? Still 33/38 as recommended?

On both the Falken 452's and my Michelan PS2's I kept pressure to what the door jam recommended. I never really did play with pressures to see if it ran better/worse with higher/lower pressure. On the track I generally run 2 psi over what is recommended. One of these days I'll actually get a pyrometer and measure the temps at inside/middle/outside and adjust pressure accordingly :? (though I think thats a bit more involved than where I'm at for track days)
