Tyre choice

Need advice on which tyres to put on the rear of my 2.0l isport.
Ive got Bridgestone potenzas on the front.
Being 225 40 R18 with an 88 rating on the front.
On the rear there is s cheap set , but the size is.
225 35 R18 rating of 94.
Cant remember the name .
Im looking to put Bridgestones RFTs on the rear too as ive got a puncture.
But im a little confused as there's a size difference in the front and the rear , the rear being 35's as opposed to 40 's on the front.
Should they not be the same or wider on the rears.
Or am I missing some thing.
Other question is .
Ive seen others have ditched the run flats for non run flats,..
Does this give a better ride.

Are you sure they rears aren't 255/25r18 - as that would make more sense if you're running a stagger set-up (i.e. wider rears than fronts).

X2 check normally staggered sets.
If so 255/35/18.
I'm using uniroyals on the Coupe and budgets on the roadster, as they are a good price for what you get. Runflats no thanks. Most change them yo standard and carry a puncture repair can.

Yes. The runflat carcas is like rubber on a steel band, there is no give in the side wall. Standard tyres have give in the side wall and help with our shite roads. They also seems to reduce the tramliningproblems that we seem to suffer with.

My car came with Goodyear F1's on the front and Nexen NFera SU1's on the rear and the rears need replaced pretty soon and i honestly cant fault the Nexen's in any way. They are suppose to be budget - mid range and try as I might to break traction the grip is bloomin amazing so really temped to stick with them when I replace them.

I've driven in dry, wet and torrential rain and no issues with grip so far so maybe another option...

I'll get the make of mine, but I agree my budgets feel no worse than the Unis my coupe came with.
I to have driven them in all conditions. What was really interesting the other day, was traction kicked in on the Coupe on my regular drive home in the dry, and I was pushing no harder than I have done in the roadster.

It may not be relevant, but could that be due to the Coupe having a stiffer bodyshell than the Roadster perhaps?

Could well be, but I would have thought holding the same lines the roadster would be more likely to be more skitish. I do like my lines on the way home!!

I know what you mean about favourite lines! But on some of the bumpier bits I use my E91 325i SE seems to be able to keep the rear tyres in contact with the ground more than my Z4C Sport - which may be why the traction light keeps flashing in the Z4C! :lol:
