Tyre blow out fun!

Well to anyone wondering how the car holds up to having a blow out without runflats... It does pretty good!
I was expecting the wheel to have sat into the Tarmac but the tyre kept it up off the road. Also had to limp it about 1mile before I could stop.
Went with an almighty bang!
Had no prior warning of issues nor did I hit anything to cause it, I was simply going round a bend on a narrow country lane when it let go. Luckily happened a few minutes before I would have joined the m65

Had to get someone to bring me my jack and my trusty bricks out so I could get it up in the air and then get my dad to bring me one of my spare wheels out (he brought me the one with a flat tyre) helpful

Not quite how I planned to look for the Unphased June meet but heyho. Bloody deserved that pint!

Yup. It had a slow puncture for about a month so I think it had fatigued eventhough I kept ontop of it

Well as usual what matters is that it turned out ok and you were ok. I still love that colour btw. fantastic..

The can of Halfords 'Tyre Weld' didn't work then?

Ouch. Glad you're okay though and no damage to the wheel!

At least you get scene points for different wheels!

I've had a blowout on a boat trailer on the M3. Its not a nice feeling at all. Glad you're ok and the car's ok too. That tyre looked like its been running on its edge for a while or was that just down to limping to the side of the road?

I think that's just from limping it, with the natural camber I presume it sat on that edge hardest.
Ironically I checked my tyres the day before for wear and they seemed good

Glad it turned out ok  I had a run flat tyre come off the rim on our old E90 330d which surprised me a fair bit because with it being a run flat I thought it would stay on the rim, luckily I wasn't going that quick so I limped off the motorway and had a tyre firm replace it at the side of the road.

I cant stand run flats though and I have just swapped them to normal tyres on the 640d and very happy with the results, just need to get them off the 330i now but I don't do many miles in that so it could be a while.

you need a low profile jack :)

having said that i bet you'd still struggle getting under with a complete flat

Yeah I do need a low level jack  well I won't next month as I'll have air ride :D
Luckily the flat was on the side where I don't have one of the plastic blocks. So I had extra space to get the jack under. Still had to lift up on the wheel arch to get it under.

Glad your ok ! I had a total blow out once in an Vauxhall Astra Estate on the motorway - real scary !

Loving the colour of your Z and those wheels Look awesome (not so keen on the purple one !)

Cheers :)
I had a rear wheel fall off my beetle before about 5 year ago. That was a definite brown pants moment!
