Hi All

Currently driving my 2012 z4 and noticed rear tyres have cracking in the tyre walls. Since its my first z and in fact any car with large tyres I was a little suprised at new tyre costs.

What are people running on theirs ? Anyone use UniRoyals ?

Been quoted £360 for two set of Uniroyals plus tracking at ATS.

I think a few members have started running Uniroyal Rainsport and like them (I think they are a good mid range rather than premium tyre). I'm currently on Goodyear Eagles and previously had Falkens (great for the money but poor mileage/wear) It will depend what sizes you are running and your mileage per year, some premium tyres like Michelin will last a lot longer, but If your tyres have cracked I'm guessing you are not a big mileage driver :wink: )

Try Asda. Yes they do sell tyres online as I have just bought two rears fitted at a local garage and using a voucher code got 10% discount.

Cheapest price I could find for Bridgestone RFs anywhere was £209 each fitted. Asda was the same less the 10%

Tyre choice will always divide opinion & ultimately your budget will dictate your choices .
Uni RS3s are more than capable all rounders for decent money , Kumho also worth considering if you are on a budget but don't want cackky tyres
a step up in quality but similar budget are Hankooks

The tyre size for the E89 is 255,30,R19.

Indeed I don't drive much at all. Probably 5-6k a year if that. I am running standard tyres at the moment and would look to do the same again as run flats give too firm a ride for my liking!

My budget is about £350 including wheel alignment.
I was told on the z both front and back should be aligned once new tyres fitted. Could be being told a load of cack ?

At same time not all places have the machine advanced enough to align bmws ?

"Cack"? It'd be 'cack' to have new tyres and not have the geometry checked.

A decent tyre place can do a BMW.

mr wilks is right budget and urgency will dictate. i recently ended up with a set of nexen nfera somethings on my rears as the ones on were screwed and i needed something quick and these were in stock in the place nearby. on-line reviews give a good all round review of them and compared to the kuhmo that came off i cant tell a difference. grip for me is good, braking seems good, lets go just about where i like. much quieter and rides a bit smoother and were only 80quid each so if they are bad in the wet i wont have lost out too much.

Thanks for the links and the advice mr Wilks. I just need to find someone who will fit them for me as I think the likes of Kwick Fit etc might turn me away?

Does it matter if the rear tyres are thicker in depth than the front i.e moving from 255,30 to 255, 35. A bit more protection and road cushioning will be most welcome. Hopefully I shouldn't experience any wheel arch issues with the change in size ?

If your existing tyres are wearing evenly & not experiencing any tramline or wandering issues there's no need to have alignment done after a tyre change .
The E89 arches are cavernous especially the rears , no problem at all taking 255 35 19 tyre but if you were concerned then stick with OEM numbers , ive had 19s on a E89 with 255 35 & i believe so have other members , by comparison 255 30 rubber is like a rubber band

I'm running these Yokohama's, got them cheaper going direct to my usual tyre place. Also mine are 265 and 235 19's.

Why would you expect that :? E89s are not known for poor tracking or alignment issues are they ?
My E89 had 120k on the clock , rear tyres on the car were half worn when i bought , fronts were done & all 4 showed even wear across the widths , a 1 owner car all stamped history with no paperwork for a wheel alignment to suggest it had ever been done or needed doing :?

As others have mentioned Tyreleader and Black Circles are good places to get tyres on line. Not tried UniRoyal Myself. A firm believer in MPS Range here.

I don't know and I believe you know more than me about E89s' alignment stability, anyway. My comment relates to roads rather than the E89.

I'm lucky enough to live near a tyre dealer with a Hunter, who charges for the work he actually does. So, instead of having a fixed fee for front or full alignment, he does a diagnostic, shows you the printout and says, 'That'll cost you x' or 'Go away. It's OK'.

Living in a town where the potholes are so big they have echoes, I go to see him when I hit a nasty one and every 3 or 4 months even if I think I've managed to avoid 'em all.

The shortest interval between nasties was 17 days. The longest with none was 4 months, but even then the settings had wandered far enough for him to reset one of the fronts. (I keep all the printouts, of course.)

So, I just regard alignment as a running cost.
