Two strange noises on ///M

Enjoying my lovely new M coupe but have a couple of questions re: noises I cant quite place.

The first is when shes been parked up for a day or two. Upon startup either going forwards slowly or reversing there's a metallic twang from under the rear of the car. Doesnt do it again unless parked up for day or two.

Second noise I'm experiencing happens occasionally and no pattern. Get in the car, start up and pull away before a metallic scraping sound occurs from front of car as I move forward. Quite loud and again, stops after a few seconds and is fine. Not a belt noise, just metallic.

Doesnt seem to have affected the car any. Anything anybody recognises?

Cheers Wondermike. Verifies my first thoughts on theat first noise too. Guessing that when the handbrake is applied it 'sticks' slightly and results in the metallic ping Im experiencing. Might trynand park up in my garage without handbrake and see if thatnmakes a difference.

Second noise from front end is more perplexing. Got some steering lock noise but nothing serious and the scraping noise is very different anyway. Its very high pitched and sounds like friction is happening somewhere, but then stops after a few seconds. Steering related maybe?

Scraping noise could be the diff, but only if it's happening when doing a tight turn at low speed as the diff won't make a noise in a straight line. If it is only when turning then that's completely normal.

When I first picked up my Z4MC I noticed that I occasionally had a metallic scraping sound coming from the rear offside wheel. It never really happened at any particular time and continued on and off for a couple of days. Braking didn't affect it, or anything else I could work out - speed, steering etc didn't make a difference. In the end I took it the the dealer who found a small stone jammed in there against the edge of the brake disc where it's fixed to the wheel hub (sorry I'm not the most technical out there!). Never done it since.

Okay, that second metallic scraping noise is still happening and havent had a chance to properly check some of the stuff suggested yet. Have identified more about it's occurance though. Parked up this evening in a painted bay and when I exited the car I noticed I was too far back. So, I just released the handbrake and pushed her forward. Slow, fairly loud metallic noise from the front happened again. Like metal on metal. Left the car, came back an hour later and as I drove away, again the noise. Seemed to stop again when I got up to about 15mph.

Weird.

I've had a scraping noise from mine before, diagnosed as just the diff plates. The dealer recommended using a diff additive (it's a known characteristic of the diff apparently) but I turned the offer down and kept to the normal diff fluid. Some time later I no longer notice the noise. I also have had both rear springs replaced but have no idea if that is related, or if just over time the diff has quietened down. Either way the car drives fantastically anyway!

Mine sometimes makes a rubbing/vibration noise on cold startup which I believe to be the cold exhaust possibly rubbing against the shield, heard when idling and pulling away. After 30 secs it disappears and never comes back until maybe the next stone cold start. Had the car for getting close to 60k miles now and still hear the noise but have no problem with the car.
