Two reds look completely different?

Is this just showing what a good bit of polish and wax achieves? Decent shots vs quick snap?

The first car looks fantastic and the second the paint looks really flat, no depth at all. Both are Imola Red.

Which is closer to the real thing as both cars are miles away? Or is just a hard colour to keep looking good, like black?

Well I own an imola roadster and the top image is a better representation of the colour. In direct sunshine the car can look quite orangey but its defo a very nice rich red colour - hope that helps.

I think the first one is well cared for, waxed and polished also most properly has a garage to preserve the paint job and shade it from the sun. The other one properly is not parked in a garage and exposed to the sun, perhaps a nice wax, polish job will bring out the sheen again :)

the second car looks like it's faded in the sun ! the top one looks right.

There are 2 cars like the second one on the BMW website. Glad the top one is a better representation. Cheers.
 
I think it is just the photo personally, looking closely the car does have a good level of reflection on it. I don't think it is the same as when you see pink corsas etc.

The imola red does come across very different in lights/photos. I agree the pistonhead ad gives a good representation of the colour in the flesh.
 
2nd car is just a shocking photograph IMO - colour balance is totally out, whole photo looks faded.

Definitely, just the camera over exposing the red, and the light levels. Car looks fine and probably identical in the metal.
