Two Problems in 24 hours.

OK, so last night my aftermarket head unit stopped working. It was working fine, ugly but fine and then just wouldn't switch on.

This Morning, its a sunny day so thought I'd have roof off on way to the gym. Press the interior button and nothing. Now, on the key fob, the windows drop but the roof stays firm.

I've tried popping out the head unit but whoever fitted it didn't leave enough cable for it to comfortable pull out of the IP.

Do we think the two issues could be related? Or just unfortunate coincidences?

I'd say unrelated.. are the electrics otherwise working fine on the car? You checked the fuse box for blown fuses? Otherwise.. I've heard that when its cold the roof doesn't actually work (although I can't have thought it was that cold this morning to warrant the roof not working)...

As said, check the fuses. The roof should at least release at the front, which indicates an electrical issue. Perhaps the aftermarket head unit is somehow wired into the hood loom power cable ? That's accessable through the ashtray assembly, but may end up wrapped in with the main loom behind the head unit - perhaps when putting the unit in the previous owner just looked for a random 12v supply... Stupid but possible ? Worth saying I am not an electrical expert by any stretch of the imagination :D

It needs to be minus 20 degrees before the roof refuses to work.

Right, problem 1 fixed....the roof. I'd picked up 4 alloys last night from Leon_in_UK and he had turned the knobs to stop hood being dropped. As soon as I opened the boot I realised. Massively embarrassed for being so dense.

I still need to work out what's up with head unit though. After easing it out last time, with one hand, whilst driving, it now won't budge when its got my full attention. I am sure its a crappy Halfords fit job that the previous owner had done.

Glad roof sorted. You happy with the wheels? Leon did mine too
