One of the next mods I would like to try to do with my Zed when it comes back from the bodyshop is look into the feasability of changing the final stage of the exhaust on my 2.0 for a twin tailpipe or is nothing on the whole 2.0 exhaust compatible with any other zed exhaust.
On another note, members who have been following the saga of the vandal who hit my car earlier this week might be interested, but not suprised to learn I am in for no compo from the boys parents and the matter is bring dealt with by my insurance company. To be fair ,they are being damned good,it goes in next wednesday. As far as the youth who damaged my car is concerned its with the police and they have given me little indication of what the outcome is likely to be... suffice to say whtever it is it won t benefit me. on the upside my daughters boyfriend and his mates are biding their time.... Its a shame I have to associate myself with this almost vigilante approach.
I m that close to posting the little cnuts name and address but I don t want to use the internet in that way

Why do you want a twin pipe? The backbox can easily be modded to have two pipes if you know anyone good at welding. I thort of this mod but then it's a 2.0l and people might think I'm trying to hide that fact adding a backbox from a straight six.

But who care's what people think, at the end of the day if you want to mis-lead people that's a personal choice. I'd say most people carry out mods here and there just to improve the cosmetic look of the car, it's not about pretending to be something else, just go with what you feel happy with.

Personally speaking I do think the twin pipes do look nicer, can't comment on how easy it would be to convert.

:)

What you say ian-mac is exactly how I feel. I m not a boy racer (christ I m nearly 50!) I personally think the twin pipes look nicer and make more use of thr standard cut out in the bumper. Look at the lengths people go to try and make their cars look newer doing all thr post 2006 facelift mods.

What I was wondering was if without any welding, a twin tailpipe box would bolt straight on in place of the existing unit?

I doubt the 3.0 back box could be fitted easily, but an aftermarket back box would enable you achieve a twin tailpipe look.

Post a photograph of the pipes in front of the back box and also one of where the single pipe emerges from the back box. It may be possible to splice in a twin back section in, or a splitter 'Y' tailpipe.

As I have done it I will try to upload some pictures.

First you have to find a patient mechanic and good in detailing. This is because he must cut very carefully just where the pipes are coming out from the box without the flame to touch the box.

Then he must find the proper size for pipes, so to fit exactly (EDIT: the new pipes must be a little wider than the ) ones coming out from the box (which by the way are now very little coming out).

These 2 pipes must be cut in the rigth length so to fit exactly where the back bumper ends while the outer one's length is smaller.

Then welding with a lot of attention and precisely so the pipes to be straight and leveled.

Finally to clean the mess and paint the box (which due to the welding becomes smokey)

Cheers for that konas!!! that was a brilliant post thank you

Cheers. Unfortunately the mechanic was feeling uncomfortable with me taking photos, so I couldnt take the following ones during the fitting of the new pipes.

Also if you check at realoem.com, you can see if the final exhaust box of 2.5 lt fits to 2.0 lt car, which by the way I think it does
